Major damage for thousands of people along the south coast as well as Portland in the NE, The worst hit parishes are Clarendon, Manchester and St Elizabeth which has been devastated. So far we know about three deaths.
All I had was a lack of internet and cable service. We did not even lose power which is amazing given that 65% of the island has no power.
Water has been on and off.
It is mostly coastal folks who have lost everything and I mean everything. Apparently the worst of Bertha hit our beloved St Elizabeth (St Bess) , Manchester and Clarendon while coming real close to the rest of us along the South Coast.
Havent been able to speak with a really close friend in St Bess - everything is down including homes, lots of roofs.
Island wide it isnt as bad as Gilbert, but dont say that to thousands on the coast.
Thanks for all the good thoughts. Love DU
Now to see if you locked up the monster while I was gone.
I see that you removed the British scumbags.😀

But we in Europe are still hoping for a block of the RRW takeover of France! God forbid! A recent poll shows that is possible, but still ... white knuckles here!
https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2024/07/04/frances-far-right-unlikely-to-secure-majority-in-second-round-of-elections-poll-reveals
From the link:
The forecast shows that the RN and its allies are likely to obtain between 190 and 220 seats. Meanwhile, the centre-right Republicans (LR) who have allied with Le Pen were projected to win between 30 and 50 seats.
This outcome would likely prevent the possibility of a far-right minority government supported by part of the LR parliamentary group.

The JDF is reporting that the fishermen left the Cow Bay area in St Andrew for the Morant Cays in three canoe-type vessels on Saturday, June 29, 2024 and were expected to return on Tuesday.
When the vessels and fishermen failed to arrive and efforts to reach them proved futile, the JDF was contacted yesterday to begin search and rescue operations.
Then we have stupid deaths like a young man jumping into an in spate gully to retrieve a football. A young girl in a group was swimming at a beach yesterday and the young man who tried to rescue her also drowned. Who takes children to the beach the day after a major hurricane.

re: UK election. This was a big fuck you to the Brexit crowd. My hope is that the SC's overreach with stripping women of their rights and re-crowning a king in a country that was founded on the premise of "of, for, and by the people" will carry us through November.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
