Over the past weekend, plus last Friday and this Monday, my wife and I did a 500 mile each way road trip from Minnesota to central Illinois for her 50th high school reunion. Not once during that drive did I see a single vehicle sporting anything pro-Trump. We were in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
Anecdotal, of course, but I was surprised. I saw nothing political whatsoever on any vehicle or on any roadside area. I find that interesting, somehow.

(147,301 posts)I also noticed, while attending reunion events, that nobody was discussing politics there, either. Since I was attending as just a spouse, nobody paid any attention to me, so I could study what was going on around me without being noticed at all.
All that said, I highly recommend going to one's 50th reunion. I went to mine 11 years ago, and now to my wife's. She was surprised at how much she enjoyed it, and at how many people actually remembered her with fondness.

(1,057 posts)Too Pooped to Pop - Chuck Berry (way back when!)
Lyrics
Casey is an old man who wants to be a teen
He goes to all the dances and they call him cha-cha King
He cha-cha's when the band is playing rock and roll
He tries to keep in time but the beat leaves him cold
[Chorus]
Because he's too pooped to pop, too old a soul
Hips getting weaker when he tries to do this stroll
And every time his feet get to go in one way
Here comes a new dance and it's going to stray
[Verse 2]
Chicks told Casey, you better move man
This is only a one night stand
Casey wasn't in time but he was dancing awhile
Till a cramp caught his leg and he had to change his style
[Chorus]
Because he's too pooped to pop, too old a soul
Hips getting weaker when he tries to do this stroll
And every time his feet get to go in one way
Here comes a new dance and it's going to stray
Because he's too pooped to pop, too old a soul
Hips getting weaker when he tries to do this stroll
And every time his feet get to go in one way
Here comes a new dance and it's going to stray
[Verse 3]
Casey finally learned to do the hoochie koo
This might have been fine back in '22
Now, I'm going to give you fellows just a little tip
If you want to keep your girl you'll better get hip
[Chorus]
Or, you'll be too pooped to pop, too old a soul
You hips are getting weaker when you'll try to do the stroll
And every time your feet getting to go in one way
Here comes a new dance you'll be left to stray

(24,716 posts)It was the 32nd one. I was dazzled to find out who was gay. Some of them were my best friends, and in '71, the year we graduated, they kept quiet about it. (It was illegal then to be gay.)
One of my classmates, who had all the affectations of being gay, was there. He's mariied with three kids and is as straight as an arrow.
Glad to hear you had a great time. Thanks for sharing.

(7,939 posts)BUT the homes that have them up are $ 2-3 million dollar homes.
Usually with a Mexican yard crews out working all the time.
One has a fairly big banner that Peace through Strength TSF 2024.(what does that even mean?)
The other has a 10x12 wooden posted one that says Trump 2024.
Hes used this one several times now. He also has a big Navy sign.
I so badly want to catch him in his yard and ask him if hes a sucker or a loser.
Just to watch him go apoplectic.😜
Not one bumper sticker or yard sign elsewhere.
I wanted to paintball them all but my husband is a scaredy-cat. 😎

(4,388 posts)to meet a first cousin my husband didn't know he had, then finish up my quest to visit all 50 states (OK, KS, NE, IA, and ND) and I have been wondering if I should cancel because those MAGAts are mean and crazy. Fun fact: If you finish up your 50-state quest in ND at the Fargo/Moorhead Visitor Center, you will be rewarded with a T-shirt, a certificate, and a round of applause from the staff. We are flying home from beautiful blue Minneapolis.
In 2016 I drove from DC to Chicago, then took the train to NOLA by way of Memphis and Nashville. Trump signs were freekin' everywhere. We didn't see a Hillary sign until NOLA. Sounds like this trip might not be so bad based on yours and other's reports on DU. I plan to keep my eyes open, and my mouth shut and make it a quick and uneventful trip.

(7,333 posts)I've never seen so many stupid Trump flags, red hats, & "Voting for the Convicted Felon" T-shirts in one place. I couldn't wait to come back to purple Georgia & my blue county. (I have relatives there. I'd never go otherwise. I love the beach, but not that one.)
Not sure, though, if that was the locals or the vacationers.

(256 posts)I live in one of the (very few) red counties in Colorado. In 2016 and 2020 this town was awash with Trump hats, Trump posters and diesel trucks flying Trump flags. Today there are none of those things in sight. Anecdotal or not I take that as a good omen.
I have seen only ONE trump bumper sticker, and it was on an old jalopy. The bumper sticker was upside down and had the word FUCK written above the sticker in Bold Magic Marker.........

(113,065 posts)of the last 2 elections, but the main change I see is that Limbaugh has remained dead. The lack of their favorite middle school bully and hatemonger seems to have removed a lot of the hot air that expanded the conservative movement beyond a minority of malcontents and jerks.
TFG being his own worst enemy is also having an effect. of course. but no one else has managed to keep him aloft like Limbaugh did.
Since resurrections from the dead are such an infrequent phenomenon, the high flying conservative balloon will continue to run short of the hot air needed to keep it aloft until it eventually crashes into earthly reality.
It's just a thought, but Limbaugh staying dead has given me more hope than anything else has over the last 35 years.

I always wondered how he and his housekeeper, (who was supplying him), got out of jail sentences. He blamed the Dems on his daily show, for secretly doing something that caused his total deafness. (It is well known that large doses of Tylenol cause total deafness)....

(33,972 posts)I'm seeing both sides from my friends/family back there.
But currently I live in Texas and we happen to know many moderates & also republicans. Most of the repubs we know here are pretty well off & they're voting on tax policy. Some of them have shown displeasure with their party after the immunity decision this week. I didn't expect that - I thought they'd ignore it like everything with Trump. But these are wealthy folks and they like democracy - they are making great $$ and having quite a lot of freedom. They realize that under Christian Nationalism - as dictated by the Heritage Foundation - they may not have so much freedom. This could get very interesting this fall.

(109 posts)Because putting up liberal signs on your lawn results in firecrackers going off in your front yard. Putting political signs or bumper stickers on your car results in your car getting keyed. The other side doesn't tolerate dissent from their party line. If you don't conform, you're fair game to be "corrected."

(1,070 posts)Had Mama out and about today, saw a yard sign for Biden/Harris. Got some happy hoots and hollahs. There have been no new Trump signs around here, or at least not yet. The one our neighbors up the road have out is almost hidden. LOL We still have the ones from years ago, big signs by the side of the road (one is Farmers for Trump), and the occasional worn-out bumper sticker, but nothing new. It's odd. Usually we're overrun with the Republican crap by now.
Sigh. Trump is no GWB, and this area went mad for that idiot.

(7,160 posts)A notable lack of Trump signs, flags, & stickers, along with the appearance of anti-Trump/pro-Biden comments on sites like NextDoor where everyone has to use their real names & there's a chance some neighbors in the area (a red area) will see it.
Even in my red area there are only two Trump flags in the neighborhood & those are places that have been flying them since 2016. One of those houses has multiple flag poles & on the tallest one they fly the Christian (nationalist) flag, white with a red cross on blue in upper left corner, & Trump flags on the shorter ones. I go by regularly & I have never seen them fly an American flag, ever.

(3,497 posts)I saw a study and it found most of the MAGA symbols were in areas with increasing racial diversity. I summer just below the Catskills and this area has some MAGA support. But it has died down form 2016 and 2020. I wouldn't read too much, those idiots all know each other now and don't need to advertise.

(1,941 posts)Around 14,000 registered voters.
In 2016 and 2020:
-- went 70% for Trump.
-- local Republicans from several counties around came here for three huge rallies.
-- one local businessman had a stock of 500 Trump yard signs, gave them away. He also rented and filled a 42-passenger bus to go to the Jan 6 rally.
-- Trump flags and bumper stickers everywhere.
Now, the Republicans in my county and surrounding counties have no plans for rallies.
One Trump 2024 flag in my county. Only bumper stickers are those left on since 2020.
The business that was Trump Yard Sign Central has not a single item with Trump's name on it visible.
Five Republican friends have told me they will leave the Presidential ballot blank.
One the major highway leading north toward DC from here is an old farm where the owner had two big billboard-size signs, one facing each direction. Now, there is nothing on either sign, blank. In the center of one billboard is a flagpole with the remnants of a Trump flag. Weeds grown up over the whole thing.

(22,885 posts)In 2020, the whole town was plastered in Trump yard signs, trump flags, Trump bumper stickers. Some homes looked like Trump shrines, even two years after the election. We even had a Trump parade down Main Street every Friday night as late as last March.
Those are all gone. I drive around every day and see no Trump signs. I know who the hardcore Trumpers are around here, and they are keeping mum this year. I've talked to friends who have noticed the same.
That's got to be a good sign.
