Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMy observed results of what I call a street poll. I live in a purplish town in a red state.
I attended our 4th of July parade. Everyone is welcome including civic and political contingents. Every politician that is running, blue or red, is allowed one sign, so of course there was one Trump sign. As you might expect, the Repubs were the larges single group. I was standing near the announcer that introduces each group. When he introduced the Repubs there was a smattering of polite applause, but no cheering whatever. I couldn't help but notice that I wasn't the only one scowling.
A little later there was a large contingent of mounted native Americans. They and their horses (magnificent animals) were dressed in full regalia. They received a very large, loud, and raucous ovation. Smiles were all around. For me it was the high point of the parade.
But of course some ahole, mounted on an obnoxiously loud Harley, and sporting a Trump flag, busted into parade. When he got to where I was the parade officials 86ed him. That also got a some applause.
The county was covered in Trump signs in 2020. With the exception of a few known diehards the flags have disappeared and there are only a few signs. I can't remember when I last saw a red MAGAt hat. It's clear that at least locally, TSF's popularity has waned.
I thought you all might find that encouraging. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

(7,080 posts)It is heartening. I am noticing an absence of clown paraphernalia also.

(7,604 posts)Purple here in a blue state and seems like the Trump enthusiasm is waning here. No signs, no flags in places where they were permanent fixtures.

(13,538 posts)But getting rid of trump was a great motivator. I'm concerned that fatigue may slow turnout. But Dems have to put the pedal to the metal right up to & ON Election Day

(13,003 posts)I was standing next to some clown who was bragging that he was like 10th? generation American.
I went over to him, in front of all his cronies and said:
So, paleface, your relatives were all responsible for the worst genocide in history, by killing off all 30-60 million of my relatives?????
He and his cronies were silent........
Sad thing the Native Americans who were indiginous to North America didn't have a border patrol.......

(13,003 posts)was priceless, as were the looks on his buddies faces.........
As best as I can research, I am only 1/4, and only have a few features.
Researching my heritage on my grandmother's side came to a screeching halt, ......seems the governments hadn't bothered with Birth Certificates, Death Certificates etc on the Native American Population............
Hitler's Genocide of Jews was horrific. He wiped out 6 million Jews, in an grossly unthinkable manner.
But the intentional Genocide of the Native American Indians, especially by our U.S. Government's Soldiers is even more revolting. Estimates are somewhere between 30-60 Million.
Reading about Lewis and Clark, when they reached the Pacific Northwest, they un-intentionally wiped out almost the entire Native Americans, within the first 30-60 days by infecting them with the White Men's viruses and bacteria.....In other areas of the country, the white men distributed blankets to the Indians that they had intentionally laced with smallpox........Ironically, their expedition was saved from being slaughtered by the Native Americans, by Sacagawea........
After the Civil War, was it Andrew Jackson?, and the U.S. Military, who captured the American Indians, (Taking them off THEIR land), and led them all on the Trail of Tears to worthless, barren land in Oklahoma.......It is conveniently unknown, exactly how many of them died, trying to walk thousands? of miles............
The murdering of tens of millions, was a black spot on our Nation's History...and one not ever talked about in U.S. history classes.

So many horrible things happened that too many Americans are not aware of.

(22,593 posts)Jackson is one of my least favorite presidents because of the Trail of Tears. That's all I can think about when I hear his name or see his image. (Don't even get me started on the $20 bill!)
I've always thought it was interesting that Trump had a portrait of Jackson hanging in the Oval Office when he was potus. Those two definitely have things in common, none of them good.

(5,215 posts)You have to wait until at least Labor Day to start seeing the big mess of Trump flags. Im also in a 2/3 red area, and Im still seeing a few here and there. They are indeed walking among us in Large numbers. Still.
Their enthusiasm has waned, but its not gone. Continue the fight!

(9,289 posts)The only political booth was a very large Trump merch booth. No customers and the owner and his wife did not look cheerful AND almost everything was marked CLEARANCE--Buy 2 get one free. It looked to me that they had barely sold anything during the entire event.
The bad news is that a countryish duo played the most incredible rendition of Ghost Riders in the Sky I have ever heard and I did not record it. I just love that song.
Oh, and there was ONE lonely Trump sign waver on the main street and he wasn't getting much response. The NW Oregon Coast is mostly blue but the county fairs attract rural Republicans.
Also, I saw three huge country pickup trucks with no handicap tags parked in the handicap spots, leaving none available. I was going to report them to the Sheriff deputies who were there but my husband said it would probably backfire.
