I heard that from a conservative when I was talking about taking a disabled guy to the dollar store to buy pop with the $30 in taxpayer money he gets a month from government program for spending money. They are freaked out about that $360 a year, but when a guy in a suit shows up and starts talking about being tough on crime, they are all over it... Of course what it really means is taking people producing goods and services OUT of the economy, and putting them in a private prison at the cost of $80,000 taxpayer dollars a year for something like growing a pot plant in their yard. (When US already has 5 times the average percent of population in prison.)
Or when its about big military, the guy in the uniform, they are all over that too, and many of them never met a war they didn't like. And of course, any big money guys, they need their account in the Cayman islands, at a huge cost to other taxpayers.
So how do you get a liberal to want to increase government spending? Offer them programs that nuture the children, elderly, disabled, poor, raise education, stimulate economy from bottom up. How do you get a conservative to increase government spending? Tell them the spending is going to an male authority figure who will imprison people, militarily dominate them, spy on them, hoard money, or otherwise project authority, and for some reason they become suddenly blind to the huge price tag.
