PHANG: Congresswoman, youve been outspoken about your support for the president, even posting on Twitter that you are riding with Biden. So what do you say to the voters who may still have some concerns about Bidens ability to beat Donald Trump?
CROCKETT:
Let me tell you, you know, the difference between the Democrats and the Republicans could not be more stark in so many ways. One of those ways that I think about is the fact that even those Democrats that are calling for the president to step aside, theyre not calling for the president to step aside because they think that Joe Bidens a terrible person, because they think that hes a failure. Theyre calling for him to step aside because they are scared. One thing that I think we all are united in, no matter where you stand, is our fear. Our fear that somehow Donald Trump can get back into the white House, our fear that the Supreme Court will absolutely end up becoming even worse, because we know that Donald Trump plans to put two more Supreme Court justices on that court and give them lifetime appointments. Our fear, because we know the reality of what they are seeking and project 2025. And so the only thing that Im asking everyone to do is to unite around the ticket. The ticket at this point in time is Biden and Harris. And so long as the president says that he can do this job, then that is our ticket. We have a democratic process. We went through the primary, and to subvert the will of the people based on polls is not what we do in a democracy. When we think about it, if the polling was right, we never would have had a Donald Trump. If the polling was right, we wouldnt have Democrats overperforming by 20 points in a number of elections. Lets stay the course. Lets recognize who the real enemy is. Lets not give fodder to the Republicans come November by tearing each other apart.

...and secure a win, capitalising on the way the American voter thinks, Gavin Newsom would be a sure win.
Progressive dog
(7,612 posts)and you can predict the future? You could make a lot of money if you really can.
There is gambling on Presidential wins. If you put money on Newsom, you'll get great odds and you could make a fortune.
BTW His actual surname is Newsom.

(198 posts)Well, around 2002-2003 under my old DU username, I did once say "The next Republican president will probably be the last" or thereabouts. That's nearly come true.
That said, I'm not against Biden and of course will be voting for him. But given everyone's nerves over the debate and all the speculation over a possible election replacement, I thought I'd suggest Newsom as someone who would be a surefire win up against Trump.

(7,612 posts)can beat Trump. Biden does.

(198 posts)But I'm not down on Biden at all. I'm voting for Biden and that's that. Nor am I trying to encourage anyone to not vote Biden. I can practically see the smirk on your face as if I were.

(14,194 posts)The "fair lady" in this case is the electorate. At a very basic level, people respond to strength in their leaders. That is why all these calls for Biden to step down, based on ginned up weakness and fear, are so damaging to the campaign.
I just heard Biden on a phone call with Morning Joe. He sounded great and the word "extemporaneously" just rolled off his tongue, "trippingly", as the Bard would say; a word, I'd guess, that is not easy for stutterers. My first thought was, TFG would not be able to pronounce that word correctly. I think Joe's got this.

(2,137 posts)A young woman answered the phone and asked what she could for me and I answered that I just wanted to thank the Representative for her statement in support of Joe Biden. I pointed out that I'm not one of Crockett's constituents, but I thought that it was important to say thanks.
There was a little pause on the other end, probably as the staffer considered the procedures for dealing with someone outside of her boss's voting district. She thanked me for my support and didn't request any other information.
It was a pretty quick call and I have no idea of how busy things are in that office. Maybe there is no point in reaching out to an elected official if said official knows that your vote will never impact their election. But I believe in the simple virtue of giving credit where credit is due. I also believe so strongly in the value of saying "thank you" that I know how to express that sentiment in ten different languages.
So, thank you, Representative Crockett. Merci, Gracias Grazie, Kiitos and Danke. I'll leave off the Russian and Chinese because I don't have the necessary characters on my keyboard.
