MeidasTouch host Ben Meiselas reports on Donald Trumps first campaign speech of this election cycle where it was obvious how Trump and the media were gong to behave.
Who owns the media and donates to Trump?

(65,821 posts)It's the same reason they promote trashing 14 million 400+ thousand Americans actual concrete votes for President Biden and Vice-President Harris in favor of transitory and easily manipulated feelings or polls.
They, nor their "news" organizations couldn't possibly have any conflicts of interest any more than Alito or Thomas, just ask them.
You can tell how much they love democracy, because virtually every time they push our nation to wage war against another it's to "instill or save democracy."

(46,281 posts)I don't know who the guy who posted the slide, "John C. Varner, III" is, but the fact that he thinks the owner of the Washington Post is Jeff Bezo, not Jeff Bezos, should be a clue that his information should be checked. So I did. I doubt he even knows who the CEOs of the companies he lists are, or what companies he should be listing. But if you check the CEOs and Presidents of the various entities listed and their relevant parent or subsidiary companies, you'll discover there is not a scintilla of truth in that slide. Not a single one of the following people have donated to Donald Trump. Many don't donate to presidential candidates or, indeed, any political candidates, and if they do, they donate overwhelmingly to Democrats, with a couple of exceptions. The list:
CNN: CEO is Sir Mark Thompson since Oct 2023. Before that it was Chris Licht.
CNN is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. It's CEO is David Zaslav (since the merger of Discovery and CNN). The Chairman of the company is Samuel DiPiazza. DiPiazza has donated to some republicans, but never to Trump.
ABC: Not sure what part of ABC the slide is referencing, so here are an array of possibilities.
ABC News: President (they don't have a CEO), Kim Godwin until October 2023, interim replacement is Debra OConnell
ABC Entertainment: Craig Erwich, since 2020
Disney (owner of ABC): Bob Iger (since 2021)
CBS: Again, not sure what entity the slide purports to reference.
CBS News: CEO, Wendy McMahon since 2022; President, Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews (since 2023)
CBS Entertainment: CEO George Cheeks since 2020
Paramount Global (owner of CBS): Chris McCarthy, principal executive officer (2023), prior to that Bob Bakish was Pres. and CEO.
NBC Universal: Mike Cavanagh, CEO since 2023, prior to that it was Jeff Shell
NBC News: Rebecca Blumenstein, president (no CEO) since 2023
NBCU News Group: Cesar Conde, chairman
MSNBC: Rashinda Jones , President (no CEO) since 2021
Comcast (owner of NBCU): Brian Roberts CEO and Chairman since 2012
Jeff Bezos: Owner Washington Post
NY Times: Owner, A.G. Sulzberger.
NY Times: CEO, Meredith Kopit Levien since 2020
Wall Street Journal owner: Rupert Murdoch, major republican donor, but not a dime reported given to Trump.
That's a list of 21 top executives of the companies listed in the slide. I encourage you to check them out using the donor lookup function on Open Secrets. Also, look them up on Wikipedia -- I suspect you may be surprised by what you learn about this group of people.

(15,909 posts)Not that it makes me feel much better about them donating to Trump, but there is some difference between being all in for Trump, and cravenly playing both sides because you stand for nothing at all.

for businesses and rich donors to contribute to both sides in a campaign. Its a sleazy practice about buying access no matter who wins.
If you dont check for both-sides contributions you dont have as strong indicator of political leanings.
The (im-)moral equivalent of contributing to both Hitler and Hindenburg happens all of the time.

(65,821 posts)It doesn't take a major leap of reason to determine there is no logical or moral justification for financially supporting *rump.
One need only look at *rump's history of betrayals against so many of his own former supporters.
