https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/07/07/election-2024-biden-campaign-updates-trump/While an overwhelming majority of members have expressed support for President Biden so far, two have been adamant about him needing to step aside, according to one person on the call, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the private discussion.
Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), the ranking Democrat of the House Judiciary Committee, was the first to speak based on seniority and called on Biden to step aside. Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.), the top Democrat on Armed Services, was blunt about how time is ticking for Biden to go.
The call is ongoing. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) are described as listening to members without making any remarks.
I think this now brings the total to 7 House Dems asking Biden not to run in November.

(7,612 posts)So what we seem to have is a segment of voters moving towards Biden and a bunch of "Democrats" trying desperately to convince them not to.
Maybe, in the end, the doom-selling media and doubters in the Democratic party will be wrong. It wouldnt be the first time. Turns out, Democrats and voters in swing states are still ridin with Biden.
President Joe Biden registered his best showing yet in a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult tracking poll of battleground states, even as voters and the media offered criticisms of his debate performance against Republican presidential opponent Donald Trump.
Trump led Democrat Biden, 47% to 45%, in the critical states needed to win the November election which represents the smallest gap since the poll began last October.
According to Bloomberg: Biden now leads Trump in Michigan and Wisconsin. Hes within the polls statistical margin of error in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina, and is farthest behind in the critical state of Pennsylvania, where hes from.
https://www.nj.com/news/2024/07/take-that-biden-doubters-race-even-tighter-in-swing-states-now-after-debate-new-poll-shows.html
There is NO data to support this attack on Biden who will remain our parties nominee unless a handful continue to ally themselves with Trump. The media coverage will stop when "Democrats" stop trying to overturn the votes and desires of the majority of Democrats.

2021:
Retirement talk growing around Rep. Jerry Nadler
People are wondering when he would decide to retire, said one associate, who noted that Democrats could lose control of the House of Representatives next year, with Nadler facing a prolonged future in the minority.
He has a fighting spirit but maybe now is the time to exit, the insider added.
Though the 74-year-old has long been a vigorous and vocal legislator, some say age and ill health have finally caught up with him. Two people who saw him recently said he could barely walk.
In 2019 the Congressman nearly collapsed at a Manhattan press conference and had to be rushed to a hospital. He famously underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2002 and was once so obese he couldnt use the subway.
Nadler is on thin ice throwing boulders!

A senior source involved with Donald Trumps 2024 effort to win the presidency and another person working with the Heritage-based Project 2025 (the conservative policy agenda project) tell Rolling Stone that the point of these legal attack plans and potential blitz of challenges isnt necessarily to win.
A key point, the sources say, would be to weigh down the Democratic nominee, the national party, and their legal and political allies in as many unique court battles and sideshows as possible so that the Democratic Party would have to waste resources and time on those matters when liberals would want to be laser-focused on, say, the battleground states that will likely decide whether Trump returns to power.
Team Biden or Team whoever is going to be getting hit on all sides between now and Election Day, the first source says. Every legal and political weapon is on the table. Still, the sources add, they do generally feel more confident in their legal theories than in the past, since Trump stacked the judiciary with right-wing jurists.....
Howell continues: I dont think anybody, myself included, can say how this will shake out because it is all so time-dependent and fact-dependent on what happens between now and the [Democratic] convention. However, he says, there are options for litigation and plenty of legal opportunities for us if an improper switcheroo were to occur In the aggregate, the legal skeptics are incorrect that there would likely be some sort of seamless switcheroo that would happen without legal challenges.
We are standing ready to sue in the event a switch is done improperly, he adds. If they do it properly, we wont sue. But if certain election integrity issues are at play, we will be very active.
Freethinker65
(11,203 posts)Biden can now say, that he obviously is not the choice of some of the extremes in his party, and that is fine with him. All voices need to be heard in a democracy. They are entitled to their opinions, and while he hopes to have their backing again eventually, he respects their decision. Biden can run with the moderate label and claim both Democratic backers and Republican backers (Cheney, Kinzinger, etc.) which makes him more palatable to independents and even some Republicans.
I am a liberal that doesn't really care what Michael Moore and Rob Reiner think should happen. While a united party is preferable, one that feels so threatened by their leader that there can never be any disagreement or criticism (the current Republican Party) is not something to aspire to.
