POTUS signed the Dr. Emmanuel Bilirakis and Honorable Jennifer Wexton National Plan to End Parkinsons Act into law on July 2.... This paper is ageist and ableist.

(6,906 posts)If the president had Parkinson's, no one would need the New York Times to tell them. The involuntary tremors would be obvious. There would be no loss of mental acuity, though.
My late father suffered from Parkinson's in his last years. As difficult a cross as that was to bear, he remained grateful to the end that he had only lost his motor control, and had not lost his mental clarity like his lifelong friend who was stricken with Alzheimer's.
I went on a canoe trip last week with an old friend who was diagnosed with Parkinson's five years ago. He's a retired attorney. His hand tremors make some tasks difficult, but he's certainly as sharp as he ever was, or sharper.
The New York Times has reduced its journalistic standards to a point that would make the editor of a supermarket tabloid blush.

Some of the 'classic' symptoms aren't always present.

(130,159 posts)My dad also had it, and he, too, was quite lucid until maybe a month before he died (he had other ailments as well). Sometimes people have cognitive problems in later stages of the disease but it mostly affects motor control. A good friend also had it, and the symptoms - tremors and a stiff gait - appeared long before he became disabled by it, and he, too, never had cognitive issues. But in any event, the fact that a neurologist who treats Parkinsons's (among other things) has visited the WH means nothing, and the NYT in its sly way admits as much:
Records from the Obama administration, when Mr. Biden was vice president, show that Dr. Cannard made at least 10 visits in 2012 plus a family tour; four in 2013; one in 2014; four in 2015; and eight in 2016. Mr. Trump rescinded Mr. Obamas voluntary White House visitors disclosure policy, so records are not available for his four years in office.
Dr. Cannard did not respond to repeated requests for comment. The White House would not comment specifically on the purpose of Dr. Cannards recent visits or whether they were related to the president. A wide variety of specialists from the Walter Reed system visit the White House complex to treat the thousands of military personnel who work on the grounds, Andrew Bates, a White House spokesman, said in a statement.
But if a veterinarian visited the White House the NYT would probably print a story suggesting that Biden has fleas.

(130,159 posts)from the fact that a neurologist who had been part of the WH medical unit for more than 12 years has visited the White House. The WH's comment was: A wide variety of specialists from the Walter Reed system visit the White House complex to treat the thousands of military personnel who work on the grounds." As I mentioned above, if a veterinarian visited the WH, the NYT would float the idea that Biden had fleas.

(1,983 posts)... on the law mentioned in the OP.
But I also don't understand why the White House won't simply deny that Dr. Cannard saw Biden.
From ABC News:
ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Mary Bruce pressed Jean-Pierre on reporting about Cannard's visit with the president's personal physician, Dr. Kevin O'Connor.
"You're refusing to say if he was here to evaluate the president or if he was consulting on the president's health. So, what then was that meeting about?" Bruce asked.
Jean-Pierre said she would not elaborate on the meeting "because we will not confirm or speak to names that you're providing to me. It is out of security."
How hard is it to just say no?

(130,159 posts)Dr. Cannard has published a paper on Parkinson's, one of many conditions that is, among other things, a movement disorder. Dr. Cannard is one of the many doctors that have worked at the WH medical department. Therefore, according to NYT, we can infer that Biden has Parkinson's - this, notwithstanding the fact that after an extremely detailed neurologic exam, doctors including White House physician Kevin OConnor determined that Biden did not have Parkinson's. OConnor also described consulting a movement disorder specialist like Dr. Cannard to advise him on Bidens gait problems. Biden has been diagnosed as having peripheral neuropathy, which can have many different causes and which can cause gait problems. It's not Parkinson's. Peter Baker gets righteously dragged for this by Emptywheel, here: https://www.emptywheel.net/2024/07/08/peter-baker-argues-joe-biden-is-unfit-because-peter-baker-is-too-lazy-to-read-the-homework/

(114,547 posts)Having representatives of a Parkinson's advocacy group means he's got Parkinson's. That's the real narrative behind their bile.
I'm sure if a PCOS group visits the WH, they'll hint he has that, too.
Ignore the Grey Lady, she's not even trying hide her rreal profession any more. You know, the oldest profession according to men.
