Here's a take on the debate debacle I have not heard -

Joe Biden's Campaign had/has a problem: the candidate is not getting any play in the MSM/press despite all the wonderful positive things his administration has accomplished even against the adversity they have faced. They know name recognition and repetition in the media is a critical part of any campaign. What to do? Taking direction from P.T. Barnum, “There's no such thing as bad publicity,” and Oscar Wilde, There's only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about”, they decide to present Biden in a poor light - or allow him to be presented so - during the 1st national debate, knowing the media will jump on it. CNN, I believe, deliberately planned to do everything within their means to do so anyway, and perhaps, the campaign caught wind of that prior to the debate.

Result: The MSM/press and all social media outlets have been - and some still are - questioning Bidens mental and presidential capacity since. Biden, Biden, Biden! 24/7, for and against, shoving Trump out of the mouths of pundits and the minds of their viewers. And from the Trump campaign - crickets. Simple and elegant; muff the debate and get days of non-stop publicity.
