Question about Affordable Care Act

I have a very good union retirement healthcare plan. It includes about 500,000 in the plans.

Does the ACA help lower costs in my plan when ACA covers more people?

What I am wondering is if my cost is still lower because of ACA? LiberalFighter Jul 2024 #2

And go on the website to compare plans. I would guess that your union plan might be less expensive, but you would have to check. My sister in law said the ACA would cost her around a thousand a month.

I don't know if the ACA improved what you are paying, but it makes sense with more people having coverage.

everyone else.

Definitely certain regulations have helped make your care more affordable as well, but the main thrust was extending care to the uninsured, eliminating discrimination based on pre-existing conditions, and making that care affordable.

When I was teaching I had a plan via the school district and it was taken out of my paycheck each month. That was about $11,000 a year plan. When I had to stop teaching I no longer had a union plan but I had a choice, either sign a form that says you permanently do not want health benefits from the union or stay in. Sort of a scary decision and I crunched the numbers. Before the ACA I couldn't get insurance outside of the school's plan due to having a previous health issue (any health issue is an "issue" for insur companies, such as being pregnant or having an ulcer) at any price. So I waited about 2 years and the ACA passed and my state approved it and now I pay about 20% of what I would have to pay.

Do your homework and crunch the numbers. Each person's situation is different so only you can make any decisions regarding you personal needs, issues, etc. It is work but so is everything.
