Plain and simple, the NYT can no longer be regarded as

the newspaper of record. They are obviously biased and are pushing a story of no merit because of that bias.

6. One can read Robert Caro's "The Power Broker" published 50 yrs ago

and see egregious political water carrying and hit jobs and sycophancy from the editorial page by the NYT, on behalf of Robert Moses, so perhaps it isn't so much of a decline as an "always was."

The Whitewater nonsense put the paper in complete disrepute because it was a hoax used as a way for the GOP to destabilize the Clinton White House as it perceived the Clinton-Gore ticket a threat to the GOP's "southern strategy."

5. The news (should) report WHAT happened.
Tue Jul 9, 2024, 12:37 AM
Jul 2024

As soon as they go into WHY it happened, you know you are into editorial territory, and you are free to ignore it.

Example: me, listening/watching the stock market pundits . . . 'The Dow-Jones went up 124 points today because . . . '

And I just don't listen to the words after 'because' as that is just BS (often).

Some media still do it well, like the BBC UK.

More like 'Tony Blair won the election', followed by the news reader raising one eyebrow, as to say . . . good or bad? You decide!

TV is nothing but opinion, which is why I don't watch it. Some publications are going in that direction, though not all of them and not all the time.

Fug them! Their comment section is vile and full of nasty magas and no doubt bots. Or boughts.

Luckily I unsubscribed so I don't have to waste time with all the lying Op-Ed Insurrectionists at the NYT!

18. No Change

The NYT has always been a commercial media print outlet, nothing more, nothing less.

They exist to produce profit for their owners first, provide journalism second.

The default position for all media should be skepticism, not hero worship. We shouldn’t expect them to be virtuous employees of a charity—it’s a business of selling newspapers. Facts are optional. I may sample and sometimes absorb their writing, but I always have my hand on my wallet when I do.
