(38,860 posts)She said she would support Biden's decision. That's not the same as calling for a different nominee. There is probably activity behind the scenes we don't know about and she didn't want to say any more than she had to. She also took a shot at the NYTimes' "making up news."

(49,019 posts)he is not stepping down. He has made that decision. He's been saying that for days
What Pelosi said is
"I want him to do whatever he decides to do. And that's the way it is. Whatever he decides we go with."
That decision has been made days ago. She had to have known that.

(38,860 posts)Privately. For all you know he told her he was taking more time, talking to more people, etc.
I trust Pelosi to know a hell of a lot more about politics than I do.

(55,334 posts)Pelosi is a brilliant pragmatic pol with a long list of accomplishments. She doesn't say anything without calculating time next 5 steps down the path.
She leaving room for all possibilities.

(49,019 posts)The fact is Biden has already stated, repeatedly, that he is not dropping out. Biden doesn't play games. He says what he means and he means what he says. That decision has been made. I don't give a shit if she's smarter than anyone politically. Biden is not fucking stepping down. She knows it and I know it, no reason for word games. He's the nominee and it shouldn't be hard for her to say he has made up his mind he said he's running. End of story.

(47,509 posts)Why exactly can't she say she supports his decision to run, considering he already made it very clear that is what he is doing.

(47,509 posts)She keeps saying that it's up to the president and he should make a decision. He already made a decision. He even put it in writing.
How much more clear can he be?
If she truly thinks it's up the president to make a decision, then she should figure out by now that he made his decision.

(3,723 posts)"...Lemire: So, Madam Speaker, you just went through the presidents record, but let me ask you about the current moment. Does he have your support to be the head of the Democrats?
Pelosi: Its up to the president to decide if he is going to run. Were all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short. I think overwhelming support of the caucus its not for me to say, Im not the head of the caucus anymore but, hes beloved, he is respected, and people want him to make that decision...."
...a simple 'yes' would have sufficed...
