1.Remember the 40 year campaigns against Big Bad Government?
Remember the decades-long hit job on Democrats, mocked as promoters of Big Government as its "takers?
And why "liberal" is still the everyday epithet of the Right?
For 40 years since Ronald Reagan, the political Far Right and Center have mocked and disdained government.
America didn't just hear it from just the Reagan administration, or just on hate radio or just Fox, but now from cable commentators and mainstream news. For 40 years.
2.
For decades Americans heard that the private sector could run America better than Big Government does.
Do Americans remember when the private sector leaped to restore human life and infrastructure after the latest natural disasters? No.
And no, it didn't. It threw paper towels of words at them -- "how are you going to pay for that," "free market solutions," "free stuff," "balanced budget," "thoughts and prayers," "eff you, got mine" 'they' don't deserve" "commie socialism," "urban corruption," "why should we pay for anyone we don't agree with"...
3.
The last time that one third of the government was shut down, news of American suffering gradually broke across the country -- 800,000 out of government cost millions lost security services, abandoned national parks, little to no food inspection, lost coast guarding, lost farm subsidies, unpaid military contractors, crippled courts, and added up to $6 BILLION taken from families, businesses, federal services to taxpayers.
4.
The 40 year PR bullshit story, since shown to be the utter bullshit, has now transformed itself into 2024s real darkness.
In prepping for Project 25 oligarchs laid out ...
-- "Doctrine" factories for the judicial system.
-- 'Vote no and take the dough' for the congressional system
-- ''Take undue credit for all good things' for the voters.
-- ''Christian nationalism' for unread believers.
-- 'History revision wars for education.
-- 'Pejorative lingo to 'groupthink' any subclass into ignorant cynics -- "woke" "radical left" "great replacement" "right to work" "traditional women's roles" "censorship & hostage taking political prisoner patriots drain the swamp, end democracy, establish rule of men for rule of law, "more God in government"
-- ''Dismantle the 3 branches & institutions' for the public sector.
-- ''Dismantle media information on all the above.
The prep work seems to be paying off. But.
As oligarchs convince millions of Americans over time not to want their country to have a government of proportional scale for the 3rd largest country on Earth -- proportional scale -- in certifying protections, elections, making inspections, setting health and safety regulations, developing vaccines, greening and rebuilding infrastructure, judging the entire country by its worst moments those millions cant help but feel on their own, living in political & corporate land that feels like a third world place where no ones coming, and in the free market place where they pay their money and take their chances. That's exactly what their henchman trump tells them, along with "what have you got to lose?"
So the millions adapt to survive the 40 year matrix.
All this 'manufactured consent' so that the fascist oligarch parasite class keep control of at scale power/government/resources of their human hosts.
5.
2024 is the year that these 77 parasitic oligarchs want to finish the job.
Parasitic oligarchs manufactured cynicism and disinformation are actually the traitorous spreading of chaos, fear, and despair.

(34,371 posts)The average GenXer. Keep in mind, theyve somehow lived through every second of this.
Im surprised Trump isnt added to the list as an oligarch wannabe. Maybe there should be a category added for them. They have caused an equal amount of damage as the actual oligarchs.
I didn't have GenX in mind. Only oligarchs. Trump is a known wannabe, therefore a henchman along with his P25 haterade crew. They've done damage, yes, but the oligarchs behind them pay them to do damage.
Dox them and hack them, too.
Hugin
(34,371 posts)But, its so often overlooked (as all things GenX are) that they didnt elect Reagan. Yet, they have suffered ever since.
The whole oligarchy is such a racket. Those people are a huge burden on every aspect of society and they offer nothing in return except more misery. It should become very expensive to be an oligarch.

(37,876 posts)Gen X are the lowest voter demographic. One would think they'd be the most pissed off demographic to fight back with the vote. But no. To their ongoing detriment they choose to be alienated. Present company excepted.

(34,371 posts)Fracturing society. Yeah, oligarchs are rich and powerful. Yet, they cant govern a secular (in the sense of looking after the interests of those who arent part of the people who are in awe of their awesomeness) society. The oligarchs resent this and ride the slippery slope of the vilification of those others. Trying to form a utopia in their own image. Which in most modern first world countries amounts to hundreds of millions of people who they have to somehow suppress. Thats expensive and beyond their means. They will try however.

https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/sites/default/files/Buffett_Rule_Report_Final.pdf
The Buffett Rule is the basic principle that no household making over $1 million annually should pay a
smaller share of their income in taxes than middle-class families pay. Warren Buffett has famously
stated that he pays a lower tax rate than his secretary, but as this report documents this situation is not
uncommon. This situation is the result of decades of the tax system being tilted in favor of high-income
households at the expense of the middle class. Not only is this unfair, it can also be economically
inefficient by providing opportunities for tax planning and distorting decisions. The President has
proposed the Buffett Rule as a basic rule of tax fairness that should be met in tax reform. To achieve this
principle, the President has proposed that no millionaire pay less than 30 percent of their income in
taxes.

(37,876 posts)state of Nebraska's governors have all been Republican, his brother was a four term Republican congress person.
He may be registered as a Democrat, but he lives, invests, and fails to support the Democratic Party in any substantial way in his state. I'm sure he's got a guilty conscience, but he worships mammon and Republican values more than he loves the freedom of women.
At the end of March, these were the top stocks in Berkshire's portfolio by number of shares:
Bank of America (BAC), 1.03 billion
Apple (AAPL), 789.4 million
Coca-Cola (KO), 400 million
Kraft Heinz (KHC), 325.6 million
Occidental Petroleum (OXY), 248 million
American Express (AXP), 151.6 million
Chevron (CVX), 122.9 million
Nu Holdings (NU), Liberty Media (LSXMA) and Citigroup (C) help to round out the top holdings.

Finally, Warren's stock holdings invest in Republican candidates. Those corporations got us to the Dobbs decision.
Take Alabama, one of the 44 states with a full ban on abortion. Here's a map of the other problematic states, Buffett's state being one.

(471 posts)Speaking out for decent tax fairness isn't good enough.
His crime is he invested in companies who in turn donated to republican causes, (and likely both parties since that's the way they hedge their bets)
and that he has republican friends?
and lives in Nebraska? which has republican politicians?

His CRIME? How about his support of Democrats. How about THAT. He didn't even endorse Joe Biden in 2020, and hasn't endorsed or contributed to Joe Biden this year.
So please just knock it off, or write your own list of "good oligarchs."

(37,876 posts)Have you ever read "The Devil and Tom Walker" by Washington Irving? That's who Buffett has become.
Read up on philanthropy. Philanthropy was invented by the rich to
a) assuage their stricken consciences about HOW they made their money, and
b) to control who deserves money so that they can keep a docile class system in place through the power of their money.
I want you to know that while oligarchs exist, even good ones like
Democratic donors like Tom Steyer, Fred Eychaner, George Marcus, Deborah Simon, S. Donald Sussman and a whole lot of the Hollywood crowd, and very few of the Silicon Valley crowd, I also want to remind you of this:
We are in oligarch wars right now.
We are SUFFERING because for decades the anti-woman patriarchal oligarchs have by stealth bought the GOP, the SCOTUS, AND ARE NOW TRYING TO TAKE OVER THE ENTIRE EXECUTIVE BRANCH through henchmen.
Want me to list the Democrats whose campaigns have accepted Big Oil money? THAT's how oligarchs operate. They are insurgents of every democratic institution through their corporations.
They are in league with mammon -- they cannot serve two masters and have sold their souls no matter how much they go to church -- and through their corporate investments and donations, don't care about humans' welfare, only themselves and those nearest them.
Bernie Sanders has always been right about oligarchs, and when Biden says, "I don't care what millionaires think," I'm with Joe who is with women and unions.

(829 posts)I agree with the overall point but Warren Buffet is a dem. I've heard him interviewed several times where he talks about how his secretary pays more in federal taxes than he does and how wrong that is. He's long advocated for the rich to pay more in taxes.

(829 posts)BTW, there are democrats in Nebraska. The GOP doesn't get 100% of the vote there.
ancianita
(37,876 posts)Republicans. His buddy from Chicago, Pete Ricketts, is a senator.
It's not what he says, it's what he does/doesn't do that defines his real politics. He's a DINO. Of course there are Democrats in NE. It would be good to poll them to see what they know about what he's done to support the party platform. He doesn't. And he won't be at the DNC in Chicago, either.
It's obvious that there's something good that many people can say about any single one of the 77. They're on this list for the reasons given in the OP, and so is he. If you read #35, you'd see that he's not to be trusted by women of his state or anywhere. He contributed directly to AL's Gov Ivey to institute the total abortion ban in that state. It will come to NE, too. Cuz that's how right wing oligarchs roll. They don't care about equal rights or democracy.
