Why people have no business diagnosing anyone by watching them on TV.
Some woman tried to tell me that Biden has Alzheimer's because he walks the way her Alzheimer-afflicted husband did. Um. No. That's not how it's done.
Here's a recent example: I had to rush my completely. This symptom, it could this, that or the other thing. They brought in several specialists. They ran tests. They drew blood. They did scans. They consulted. They crunched numbers. It could be a or it could be b, they said. they said. Or c or d. Turned out it was E. Nothing to do with his chronic conditions. See where I'm going with this? See how complicated it can be figuring out what's wrong with someone? Why no one has any business deciding what's wrong with someone by watching them on TV? Or seeing them at a fund raiser?
We're fine, he's in great hands. I'm just putting this here so the armchair doctors can see it. We've had a lot of experience with the medical-industrial complex, and while it has its faults, it is the place where diagnoses should take. Not your living room.

(3,020 posts)It is not an indication of anything mental. Its one of the reasons that seniors are often at risk for falling.

(15,522 posts)Whatever is causing Biden's behavior (not always, but often) and demeanor (always) is irrelevant. Just the fact that they can be observed is enough to cause a loss of enthusiasm on the part of the less than committed Dems and undecideds.

(5,370 posts)Washington Post poll shows the numbers haven't moved at all.
And I have heard many, many people say they know what's wrong with him, including here on DU.
1 - That's why I couched my reply in terms of motivation to vote, not replies to a poll.
2 - Right. It's silly to diagnose. And not necessary. We see what we see.

(5,370 posts)you should be called out on it. One of the worst things about the Internet is, it's made some people decide they can be an expert on anything.

(28,836 posts)So, I'm not really that surprised when the other side does the same thing.
It's also nothing new. The GOP, including some alleged medical professionals in its ranks, diagnosed Terri Schiavo via video and weren't even in the ballpark.
I stick to what the president's medical professionals have said after his yearly physicals and what they say now. As you said, he's in good hands, and there's no indication that any of the wild claims made by the right are valid.

(28,836 posts)Voters should have everything they need to know about Trump to understand that he's unfit for any office and an abhorrent human being. Potential mental and/or other health issues would be a drop in the bucket at this point.
