This is beyond ridiculous. Politico's headline is "What Obama and Pelosi are doing about Biden." When you go on to read the actual article, all they say about Obama is that he supposedly "didn't object" when George Clooney called him to give him a heads up about the article (but also didn't encourage it). This despite the fact that Obama sent a pretty clear signal by being one of the first Democrats to come to Biden's defense right after the debate. If Obama were working behind the scenes to help push Biden out, we'd know it. There's no evidence of it and the media is grasping at straws, IMO. It's no secret that Obama discouraged Biden from running in 2016, so the fact that he's not playing a bigger role now in trying to push him out is telling.

(2,823 posts)Whenever a crime is committed, you need first to look at the evidence and then at motive - who would benefit? I just don't see how Obama would benefit from Biden stepping down. Nor do I think it was Nancy Pelosi in the Conservatory with a Candlestick.

(12,011 posts)At least not the same way downballot Democrats afraid of him being a drag on the ballot do. But Obama is a patriot, and he cares about the country and the party. And he does have some self-interest in the sense that Trump might gut Obamacare and other achievements if he wins. If Obama really felt Biden wasn't up for the job or couldn't win, I'd like to believe he'd do what he could to try to fix the situation. But he hasn't, at least thus far, and that tells me he's not as concerned as others and that's a good sign.

(42,031 posts)is that Biden was still deeply grieving the death of his son Beau. Obama saw this up close and didnt think Biden would be up to the campaign. Maybe it had something to do with Obamas history with Hillary as well. It seemed to be more than an intentional pass over.

(4,016 posts)the 2015 death of his son Beau. Biden didn't feel he could put his all into a presidential campaign while still trying to deal with the death of his son.

But you are correct that the main reason Obama discouraged him was because he was grieving. I think Biden also speculated in his book that Obama may have made a deal with the Clintons at some point during the 2012 campaign, but I could be wrong about that.

(22,456 posts)...or people are cognitively incapacipated, because no one in their right mind would be thinking or saying this stuff.
Those who are trying to claim it's reasonable to question the candidacy of a man who proves his worthiness everyday, or are trying to claim it's reasonable to consider replacing a candidate 4 months from election day, are either profoundly unaware of reality or are actively workng in favor of trump.

(8,006 posts)Something along the lines of he was going to talk to Joe about his candidacy as he was "worried", or words to that effect.
If I remember right this was before the debate even.
I think this ditch Joe crap is going to go away soon and there's still plenty of time before the election to put all this to rest.
