Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWell, I thought that President Biden's press conference...
contained some of the most accurate answers and the most thoughtful presentation of those answers that I have ever heard...anywhere.
If the media keeps harping on the fact that he misspoke one time, they are going to finally reveal themselves as clowns.
And yes, I'm talking about some of our MSNBC "heroes" as well.
If they keep harping on Biden's minor gaffe, they are essentially revealing that they have an agenda that is not in-line with the health and safety of our citizens, and of our democracy.
I seriously thought that Biden showed tonight what a master he is on the issuers that matter.
What a great fucking job he did.

Frankly, if anybody was "born" to be president of the United States, it is Joe Biden.

(9,913 posts)I've felt that way since shortly after he got the nomination. He wasn't my first choice, but when the dust settled, I realized he was probably the best thing to happen to the USA at this point in time....post trump.
And it is OUR OWN PARTY that has decided to throw the election to trump by hammering Joe about being too old! The Democrats in the House and Senate seem to be falling hook, line, and sinker for the right wing's plan for this election, in sync with the right wing owned media.
Jaime Harrison has been AWESOME!!!! Standing up for Joe. Democrats in the legislature are blowing this election to high hell. I have called members until I'm blue in the face. But we need to KEEP CALLING!!! Let them know we're putting our loss of this election ON THEIR SHOULDERS ...anyone who has called for him to step down while we don't have any time to get a new primary! After all....we can vote out the senators and reps who go against Biden, except we won't be having any more elections!!!!
PLEASE CALL EVERY ONE OF THE DEMOCRATS WHO IS JUMPING SHIP PLUS THE LEADERSHIP (Jeffries and Schumer AND Pelosi, since she has a lot of influence) :
Representatives:

Senators:

And call the White House and tell Joe and Kamala to stand firm!

(53,214 posts)I'm not so sure that they necessarily have an agenda. I think they were bombarded with so much media noise that they just became parrots, when they should have been more thoughtful and analytical.
Some of those MSNBC "heroes" were a grave disappointment to me. If they were so easily swept away by the opinions of others this time, how do I know I can trust them later down the road?

(7,790 posts)Or was it a joke? I've not been able to watch video myself, and probably won't be able to until tomorrow. But I've been hearing that it was a gaffe... and I've also heard it was a joke than few, if any one else, "got."
What was the context of the phrase?
I'm ridin' with Biden, no matter what. But when I can't do the videos, and there's no real explanations of the phrase beyond what I consider incomplete headlines, it's frustrating. Sorry to be so far behind everyone today. It's been one of those kinds of days...

(5,410 posts)Ok.... President Biden was talking about Vice President's qualifications for her job, but accidentally referred to "Vice President Trump" instead---
probably because his brain is running way ahead of his mouth,
and, like with many of us,
Trump occupies too much "rent-free space" in his brain....
At the very end of the press conference, a reporter referenced the error,
and Trump's response on 'Truth Social',
implying the question why *we* shouldn't be concerned about that one gaffe,
and President Biden looked at him, and replied
"Listen to HIM"
and walked away.

(7,790 posts)And yes, brain running ahead of the mouth... gods, am I familiar with this situation! I actually said Biden the other day when I meant Trump. Don't know if grandson caught it, but I did. We elders have a hell of a lot of information and experience to try to get out to people. Sometimes, the words don't come as quickly -- or I guess I should say, they come too quickly! (gryn)

(102,782 posts)Keeping everything he has to retain in his head and deal with the public parade part? His decades of knowledge and everything that comes blasting into the foreground every day are astounding. I voted for him because I have watched his career since he was first sworn in and have been very impressed a number of times when I learned of his individual accomplishments over the years.
I voted for him because he, like former Speaker Nancy Pelosi was as Speaker, is the perfect person to be in that role at this time and there is no other individual who can cover all the bases Joe does. If he's into it, I don't care how old he is, I trust him to continue driving the bus through this dark and evil jungle we're in. He actually knows all the roads and where they lead to... each one, because he was there when they were built.
In fact, I trust Joe Biden more than most members of Congress from any state... and I trust several of them.
What I am most concerned about is how the media is hyping the shit out of this. On the bright side, they are getting most of us fired up and determined to prove them wrong, again.

(5,410 posts)and how Trump's current economic plans would actually increase inflation dramatically, among other things.
That would usually be considered "unusual" for a presidential news conference to discuss his opponent in the coming election-- but the media forced this news conference to in essence become a 'political/campaign event' which they were ALL covering--- FOR ONCE--- so I was very glad to see President "Fighting Joe" Biden taking effective shots against Trump--
especially against his golf game! LMAO and I don't even play, myself
(anymore-- I just wasn't any good at it)

His style is pretty low key, but he could maybe have made two points:
1. None of us know if we will even be alive tomorrow or what will happen to us. All we have is the now.
2. No president ever really says this, but a president is never really alone, and Biden has surrounded himself with really bright people. Yeah, he makes the decision, but they make sure he's got all the facts.
Plus, and perhaps a third point - he has more experience in his little finger than Trumpy can ever claim.

Princess Sparkle Pony -- nobody hears from her anymore. Jar-jar. Solving peace in the Middle East took all the starch out of him. He's in a rest home.

(3,832 posts)guaranteed the next 4 days, nevermind 4 yrs. Joe knows more about the vagaries of fate than most. I wish he'd tackle that inane question head on. Ask the questioner if they can guarantee anything about the next 4 yrs. You know, turn the question back on 'em. And Joe chose Kamala for just that reason - life is unpredictable. Do they all think bad things never happen to young people?...

(26,009 posts)NPR was a non-stop discussion of Biden's decline, inability to handle the complexities of today's world situations, growing support among Dems in Congress to remove him, how they might accomplish that for the good of the nation, etc., etc.
Then I watched his impressive complete command of the international and domestic issues, easy move from one topic to another as the questions changed, remembering the second part of a question after answering the first part in depth. All without notes. All after a long day at the conference.
I wondered if the NPR pundits had the decency to change their to tune, but did not listen to find out. Cold day in hell before they ever get a penny from me in donations.

(9,605 posts)I'm reminded of the Thomas Pynchon quote: "If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about answers." That is American media's primary function these days.
The media wants us to believe that "truthful" reporting is more important than helping to sustain democracy. That rationalization leaves out partisan balance in reporting which clearly is being ignored. Big media is caught in the competition between modern predatory capitalism (Christian nationalism is a vassal enterprise) and democracy and is making bad choices on our behalf. They need to be discarded and replaced.

(36 posts)I have been a dedicated viewer of MSNBC news for several years. I often used to watch three or four programs a day. That has changed now. Im no longer interested in watching anyone else but Lawrence ODonnell because your news hosts are taking the position that President Biden needs to drop out. I think that view is dangerous to our democracy, and I no longer watch Nicole Wallace, Chris Hayes, Joy Reid, or Alex Wagner. Im still on the fence about Rachel Maddow but shes only on once a week. I will listen to her next Monday and make my decision then whether to completely cut MSNBC (except for Lawrence ODonnell) from my daily news feed. I no longer trust any of those news hosts, which has caused me to wonder about the veracity and interpretation of everything they say.
I have seen that MSNBC has been seeing an exodus of viewers since the debate. I hope it continues until your news hosts stop banging the drum about President Biden dropping out. I watched the news conference with President Biden tonight, and I thought he did just fine. Then I listened to the talking heads and wondered if they had seen the same news conference that I did. Instead of harping about President Biden, perhaps your news hosts might do better to highlight all of the ways that Trump is such a huge danger to our democracy. Even the failing" New York Times, which I stopped subscribing to a couple of years ago because of their obviously biased stance, published an editorial highlighting why Trump would be so bad for our country. The only way I learned of their editorial was because Lawrence ODonnell read it on his show tonight.
At this point, I think what Im seeing on MSNBC lately has been about as detrimental to our democracy as anything on Fox News. I will also be writing to your advertisers to let them know my position.
