paraphrasing:
I cannot tolerate what the Republicans (of which I am one) are doing in working to the detriment of the country just to get rid of this President at all cost.
It will probably be the reason I may have to leave the party in the future.

And yes it followed him expressing true disgust.
I'm surprised he has not already done it.

(22,678 posts)They make you vote against your own interest, because Limbaugh says: let me read the newspapers for you.

(4,266 posts)So they will take almost any stand... even, and this is what really grates on me as a Republican, even if it is not in the interest of this country. They will take a stand, and have repeatedly taken stands, that oppose the President simply because they oppose the President.
It's not America.
It's not the United States.
It's not our best interests.
It's certainly not our national security interests.
It's getting rid of this President.
That is political opportunism, and political blindness of the first order. And, it may cause me to leave this party eventually. I must say that.

(22,678 posts)I get so stunned when I hear an important moment like that, and in paraphrasing only get the kick in the gut, but not the exact words.
To me this was huge. Because that man has been steadfast ever since he first came on the scene and was REAL.

(4,266 posts)Glad I could provide affirmation of your recollection. And I agree: it was huge! (or is that HUGH?!?!?)

(9,696 posts)It was refreshing to see and hear someone be that honestly angry, especially since he's former military. Every thing he said rang true.
I'd like to hear more from him.

(22,678 posts)One of the very very few Republicans to be honest with us. I think his association to Colin Powell has entrenched him to not say what he did today - until his collar burst - which it did.
