General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe media is still continuing their "Biden must quit" mantra, and there is no indication that they will stop until they
achieve their goal, "that Biden steps down".
Any positive news is immediately dashed with a negative poll, or pundit's opinion.
As reported here and elsewhere, there are wealthy democratic donors, BRIBING congressional democrats to try and push Biden out publicly by enticing them with donations to their campaigns. How that can even be legal with the campaign finance laws is beyond me.
Yesterday, the NY Times published one editorial that trump was not fit to be president, after two weeks of non-stop anti-Biden stories how "Biden need to step down", one day later they are back to their "Biden needs to step down" stories, with only a brief mention of a substantive Biden news conference, followed by an enthusiastic large Biden Rally in Michigan.
It seems we are caught in a terrible loop that feeds upon itself. As long as democratic congress people are influenced by "big money" donors bribing them to speak out against Biden staying in the race, this nightmare will not end.
As someone pointed out some of the same congress people who are involved in trying to push Biden out, are the same ones who were trying to push Pelosi out as Speaker, except the stakes are much greater now, we are talking about a President of the United States who won over 3000 delegates, that they are trying to push out.
I have never been so disgusted and dismayed.
This has gone on too long, and it is time for the Democratic leadership in both the House and the Senate to stop the damage that is being done. There are rules that have been setup, and there are big money forces trying to subvert those rules.

(130,811 posts)when after the debate, they decided Biden was too old and feeble and immediately called for him to withdraw. Instead of waiting for more information on his condition or watching subsequent appearances to see if he still seemed ill or impaired, they stuck their necks out - in the case of the media, maybe they were chasing the big scoop or at least more clicks; as to the politicians, maybe it was fear or maybe it was opportunism. In any event, a bunch of damn fools got on that bandwagon and kept it rolling. Now that Biden has made multiple appearances in which he seemed just fine, thank you very much, they are stuck with either having to admit they were wrong or keep riding the bandwagon. Since nobody, and especially beltway pundits and politicians, wants to admit to being wrong, they'll keep at it. We have to push back as hard as we can.

(12,713 posts)And they are paying journalist extra bribes to trash Biden.
The money is coming from the Russian people's tax rubles converted into bribes for corrupt media pundits and social media emperors.
Since the butcher Putin has access to all of Russia's wealth, he uses it for more than just building his pampered ass a golden palace to meet with Clarence.
This is why Pedo Trump wants to be dictator. He wants access to all our tax dollars and all our little girls.

(12,553 posts)The media ran the narrative and they're now loathe to walk it back.
I had that distinct sense the other day when I caught a few moments of Alex Wagner and Chis Hayes, the lukewarm, qualified comments on President Biden's press conference, and then the rousing rally in Michigan. Or Axelrod's comment that the reason he and others have been critical is because of the 'cloistered' nature of President Biden's presidency and campaign which in my mind means they have felt 'set aside' without proper access and respect. That's certainly the reason someone like Peter Baker has noted: Joe Biden hasn't been suitably available to the press.
They've had their fee-fees hurt, their egos not stroked enough. It's payback time.
Add that to the over-the-top theatrics of a Donald Trump who writes the stories himself with every outrage, cruelty and adolescent move. Agent Orange produces revenue in an era when the MSM is in decline, competing with every blogger, internet site, podcast etc. for clicks and eyeballs. Kahn's comment at the NYTs that democracy is a partisan issue and his vision for the paper during a second Trump Administration is a tell, an expansion of staff to cover every ridiculous move, every childish, vindictive action.
Oh, the joy!
As for donors? My son just finished a hiking tour with a high-end DC lawyer who has a lot of contacts and relationships within that world. Her perspective? That a number of donors express true indignation that Biden did not 'keep his word' about being a transitional president, a one-termer. I suspect President Biden's lean to the progressive side of politics has rankled them. Too much status quo shaking, too much talk about raising up the poor and middle-class. Not enough deference.
Someone mentioned yesterday that Joe Biden is the People's President. I think there's some truth in that and the uppity-ups do not like it.
We're teetering on the edge of genuine disaster with the threat of Agent Orange and his Flying Monkey Brigade taking over in November. The people who will be hurt the most are the middle-class, the poor and the vulnerable. Those who think their money, status and profession will protect them are dead wrong.
In the end, fascists go after everyone until there's nothing left but a withering howl.

(7,089 posts)If they want to use their big bucks as a bribe to get what they want, they need to be told, impolitely, to go jump off a cliff and take their money with them. We don't need them. It appears that small donations are pouring in as they never have before.
It's clear, if these people are trying to hold back their contributions because they want Biden out, that they don't see Trump as an existential threat to American democracy. So cut the losses and move on to the real issue. If they're not committed to the real cause here, then we don't need them. They are only insterested in control, not in saving American democracy.

But this 24/7 drumbeat, repeated over and over again, is insane. They have no new evidence, and very little old evidence. They just keep bringing on pundits to re-hash the same talking points we have all heard a thousand times before.
