On a Ferry in NC and man is bringing up politics.

I decided to be quiet and let my husband handle it because he stays calm and I start getting excited. He said things are more expensive like his home insurance. I chimed in and said, “ yes, the insurance industry needs to be reigned in!”
More conversation between my husband and the man, my husband explaining how our home state used to be union- heavy because of coal mines. I piped in and asked if the guy was unionized on his state- run job. He said they weren’t and things had been kinda bad . I told him that was his Republican legislatures fault and he needs to vote Dem.

I was in a casino, walking through to a restaurant (Wakuda, great btw) wearing a mask which I put on every time I get in an elevator. A white guy coming the other way, drink in hand, big beer belly proceeding him, stepped into my way and said, ‘Hey, why are you wearing that mask? You know they don’t work, don’t you?” I quickly stepped in closer, like really close, right up in his face, pulled down my mask and said, “I have covid. I don’t want anybody else to get it from me. I’ll make an exception in your case.” And then I fake coughed. He jumped back so fast he almost fell down. I cant tell you how satisfying it was!

There’s no point: Under state law for as long as I can remember (my Dad was an anatomy professor at one of the state’s medical schools and Mom was a high school counselor), it’s been prohibited by law to negotiate collective bargaining agreements between state agencies and state employees. There’s a state employees association, but it’s basically toothless. Especially since the KKKlanbaggers won control of the legislature back in ‘10.

27. WV is same I think...but I was a teacher and I belonged...

I think teachers could belong to a union but when we famously had a “strike” back several years ago, our county superintendents had to declare a work stoppage because of unsafe conditions or something- to get around it and support us. Like it was unsafe because so many people would have called off work. WV became a “Right to work (for less) “ state which may or may not have anything to do with the whole thing.
Anyway, WV went from being a major Union state (Think ‘mine wars’) to being completely and utterly Trumpy😩

10. My family did the Hatterass to Ocrakoe ferry for years

The kids loved the ferry, feeding the seagulls, lunch at Howards Pub....I hate the beach but the wife and kids love the beach so I suffer in silence. As long as the condo has good A/C and a pool I can survive with a ton of books I take with me, kill most mornings watching the Tour De France.
