Bill Penzey's email today about the shooting was one of the kindest, most

loving things I could imagine. I hope somebody who is on the list can post it here. He even explained why he took down the poster that read "Welcome, FAKE electors" from their store across the street from the security zone.

Sadness. Violence is not the answer. We do have a democracy, a planet, and fifty years of women’s rights to save. But for today can we all just take a day off and simply feel empathy for all Americans including Trump voters? You can argue the reasons and the healthiness of it all, but I think we all can agree Trump voters truly love Donald Trump.

Yesterday they all saw the man they love go through something no one should ever have to go through. And I’m sure for at least a moment they feared the worst. They saw the shooting, they saw the blood coming from his head. And his people said he was fine and just being taken off for observation, but that’s what they always say. I’m sure that was not a good moment for them.

On the Facebook post about the fake electors poster in the window of our downtown Milwaukee store across from the Convention security entrance a commenter posted: “Drove past this evening. Sign was down. How come?” The answer is: Because we took it down.

The sign will be back in some form when the time is right. But what was both clever and needed yesterday morning, by evening had become something different. For a time yesterday Republican voters' hearts broke. Clever in the face of that just felt cruel. Cruel is not who we want to be.

Tomorrow they have a Convention where it will be their job to build the momentum and excitement to get their man elected come November. Tomorrow it will be our job to do our best to make sure that doesn’t happen. But that’s tomorrow. Today we have a day to simply feel empathy for fellow Americans who had a really-really bad day yesterday.

Love to the family and friends of the bystander killed and to all those in the crowd who were hurt. Same too to whoever had the job to eliminate the threat of the shooter. We ask so much of law enforcement. Today is a really hard day for many. Please love them all.

In our stores and online at penzeys.com no coupons or codes are needed for any of these offers. $50 Gift Cards for $35 are automatic for everyone as is the free $18.95 January Six box with the purchase of three gift cards and the free Revolution with any purchase. The $24.95 Popcorn Seasoning gift box automatically becomes $10 just by buying it. This is all so easy.

Don’t miss this chance to have your gift-giving dollars go a bit further or simply save a bit more on future purchases. It’s all good. I should also say these are forever Gift Cards with no fees or expiration date. It’s not too early to holiday shop.

And today please just love all the Americans. Tomorrow there will be work to be done. Today buying a small stack of $50 Gift Cards for $35 each will help us with that work. But other than that, today really can be an actual day off from that work if we let it.

There was a time when politics wasn’t more important than family, or friendship, or sharing a community. Let’s have a day of that.

Thanks for cooking, thanks for caring,

Bill
