A question from an 'old' person about posting here on DU (any smart one please answer)

When ever I post against a thread, the ONLY way I can get back to where I was when I clicked on 'post ...._
is to go to top of screen, and re-select what discussion forum I was on (eg. HOME, LATEST THREAds, etc.
So.... what am I doing wrong? or is this just the way it is on DU?

Thanks for any assistance!

not sure exactly where you are wanting to go, but "My posts" is very useful.

5. That isn't the problem. It is when I post a response to someone thread.

It is when I click on the 'back' arrow (top/left of screen) that normally returns you to the previous screen you were on. I don't was to go look at MY POSTS.
Thanks anyway.

Maybe it is just some error in my browser.

10. You could open threads (or just reply links) in a new tab/window of your browser.

Then when you are finished with the thread (or reply), just close that tab/window and you are back where you started in the original tab/window.

12. After you post, you'll probably have to refresh (click here), then start scrolling.

You have several places to click on when you scroll up, such as the title of the thread to see it all. If there is a view all option at the end of the thread title, click that. Then scroll until you get to where you want to be.

If you wish to leave the thread, but stay in the forum, click the choice of the forum name. If you want out of there, you can click the buttons for home, latest threads, greatest threads, my subscriptions or my posts at the top.

If you are near the bottom but which does not have buttons but has a list, you have most of those options, but not the thread title you posted upon. Yes, this is a lot of scrolling.

13. What I figured out

aside from the multiple tabs and "my posts" options is to look at the line (title of the thread in blue) at the top of your response window (after you've clicked on "post my reply", check the response # on the left and then click on "view all" at the end of the thread title in blue inside brackets. Click on that and scroll down to see where your response falls by looking at the response # on the far right and then scroll further down to its location in the full response part of the thread, where the # then appears at the top left of each reply. (That's the easiest way I have found so far,) Sounds complex but it's really not, I found that using the "back button" is messy and confusing.

14. The behavior might also depend on which Browser you are using:
