(319,066 posts)I've read of this
a voters card posted on Threads with this information. It was next to the voters card of the shooter. Looks like I've opened a hornet's nest for some folks. The theories are flying everywhere today . Sorry if I've offended anyone.

You're not the only one who said it was "false" on this thread.

(11,222 posts)came from his home address. The only other way that I see if he is a strong Republican and someone donated in his name. I do not know if that is possible or not, but before I own he did give 15 on inaugration night which is ahrd for me to believe a 17 yr old would do, then I would like that cleared up.

(12,240 posts)of the donation.
It shows the address which apparently is the same address as the shooters family home.
Here is the form they posted. I can't find the original post but it also has his Republican voter registration.

Have you seen a verified source about the donation being from a 69 year old? I wasn't able to find anything.
I also found this;
Aric Toler
@AricToler
No.
If you search the filing on http://fec.gov, the address for this Thomas Crooks is the Bethel Park address and ZIP code he lived in. For some reason it's incorrectly listed as Pittsburgh in the filing (his address doesn't exist in Pittsburgh).

Another MAGA talking point down the drain.
Thomas Crooks, who donated 15 bucks to Act Blue, is a 69-year-old Democrat who lives in Pittsburgh and just happens to have the same name as the Republican who shot Trump.

(34,286 posts)Put both the shooters address and the donor's address in google and it takes to the same house!

I work with voter files and cities and zip codes are "fluid". I have a friend who lives in San Antonio, whose zip code is in another town. The home is legally in "Bethel Park", but via the mail it's in the Pittsburgh metro area. There is only one ]b]"2506 Milford Dr" in Allegheny County.
Generally counties only have one address assigned per street name and number. That is because counties are the property appraising districts.
Bethel Park is a suburb of Pittsburgh. Both Pittsburgh and Bethel Park are in Allegheny County.

debm55
(60,568 posts)or Patrick Place, South Park, PA. The Zip code was the same for both. As long as the zip code was correct we would get our mail ---not the name of the city. At least that is how it is done in Allegheny County.

(54,404 posts)like people do often when they live in suburbs of a big city. Example: people often say they live in or are from Los Angeles and do not give the exact area or suburb inside Los Angeles County.

Allegheny County
County in Pennsylvania

Google the donation address
it yields the same address as if you had typed in Bethel Park

Case closed, it is the shooter on both forms.

Crooks was in a Blackrock commercial at his school they did for Teacher Appreciation. Blackrock is right up there with Soros for conspiracy folks. Still, that is like 15% of people out there. The moderate independents in the middle who will decide this election won't pay any attention to that.

He donated some spare change to Act Blue right after Jan 7th you say? Was that because he was liberal? Or maybe they just told him they were a get-out-the-vote org (true) and he didnt know what he was donating to? Or maybe the fundraiser was a cute college student? In short - it tells us next to nothing.
He was a registered republican you say? Is that because he was conservative? Or maybe he rebelled against his (democrat) parents
or maybe he was a liberal who registered Republican so that he could vote Haley in the primary
or again - there might have been a cute girl republican next to him in line when he got his drivers license. Again - it tells us next to nothing.
What we do know was that he wanted to kill Trump. Thats it.
Well know more soon enough - not that its likely to change anything

(15,522 posts)why he donated to Act Blue when he was 17 but later switched. It's common for kids to hold the same political views as their parents until they get older. I thought I was a Republican because my parents were, and I was around his age when I switched.

(34,286 posts)Crooks was a registered Republican, according to state registration records. City councilman Dan Grzybek, who represents the area where Crooks lived, said he met the family last year. Crooks father was a Libertarian, and his mother a Democrat, according to Grzybek, who told the Times this was a fairly typical mix for the area.

I think this source is more reliable, since it comes from a local city councilman.
This might explain why his father purchased the AR 15

https://www.marca.com/en/lifestyle/us-news/presidential-election/2024/07/14/6693d31a268e3e414c8b458f.html
His mother, Elena, works as a home wife but she has a background in education as a teacher at elementary school or middle school level before focusing on raising Thomas Crooks and his siblings. [snip]
The house was supposedly free of arguments and fighting and Thomas Crooks is said to have lived a very normal childhood up until the age of 18 when he moved out after falling out with his parents. He did not move back in with them.
The motive for the separation is unknown other than it's claimed he had a big fight with his dad, and he had lived with his grandparents for a time before moving on after they caught him using drugs and told him off for it.
FBI investigating Trump rally attack as potential act of domestic terrorism
https://www.kget.com/news/politics/ap-trump-is-injured-but-fine-after-apparent-assassination-attempt-leaves-rally-goer-and-gunman-dead/
A local law enforcement officer climbed to the roof and found Crooks, who pointed the rifle at the officer. The officer retreated down the ladder, and the gunman quickly fired toward Trump, the officials said. Thats when U.S. Secret Service gunmen shot him, the officials said. [snip]
Bomb-making materials were found inside both Crooks vehicle and at his home, officials said. The FBI described the devices as rudimentary.
His motive remained unclear. Crooks wasnt on the FBIs radar, and he was believed to have acted alone. Investigators combed through his social media feeds and his home but found no immediate threatening writing or posts. His family was cooperating. Crooks relatives didnt return messages seeking comment from the AP.
Authorities hunt for clues, but motive of man who tried to assassinate Donald Trump remains elusive

Crooks tried out for the schools rifle team but was turned away because he was a bad shooter, said Frederick Mach, a current captain of the team who was a few years behind Crooks at the school.
Interesting.
chowder66
(12,240 posts)snip...
Incongruous actions that Crooks took late in his time as a student at Bethel Park high school offered virtually no hint at his political leanings. He was a junior at the school, and it was the first day of Joe Bidens presidency, when Crooks donated $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project, a political action committee aligned with the presidents Democratic party
Yet eight months later, early in his senior year, Crooks registered to vote as a member of the Republican party, led by Trump since 2016. And he had left his affiliation unchanged when he voted in the November 2022 midterm elections, which took place months after he graduated from Bethel Park high, where he was among a group of students to receive a $500 National Math and Science Initiative star award.

(34,286 posts)He didn't donate to Republicans. He didn't vote in the 2024 primary. He registered as a Republican on his 18th birthday. He last voted in Nov 2022.
He wore a "demolitian" shirt. We're getting anecdotal reports about him being a loner and being bullied. (They are likely true). His father purchased the weapon.
There will be more info released as it becomes available.
Why would someone create a spoof with the intention of embarrassing a HS student, when no one looks at campaign donations unless something like this happens?
He probably saw something that interested him when he was 17 years, 4 months old and decided to donate. 8 months later, he probably didn't hold the same viewpoints, so he registered as a Republican.
