Morning Joe pulled from air Monday because of Trump shooting
Story by Oliver Darcy, CNN

MSNBC will not air Morning Joe, its celebrated politics roundtable program, on Monday, opting to instead air continued breaking news coverage of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
The progressive news network confirmed the decision to preempt its influential and top-rated morning show after a CNN inquiry Sunday evening. The network said the show will resume airing Tuesday.
The decision by MSNBC to leave one of its most recognizable programs on the sidelines amid a seismic politics-driven news cycle, with the Republican National Convention getting underway in the wake of the Saturday shooting at Trumps campaign rally, is certain to raise eyebrows.
A person familiar with the matter told CNN that the decision was made to avoid a scenario in which one of the shows stable of two dozen-plus guests might make an inappropriate comment on live television that could be used to assail the program and network as a whole. Given the breaking news nature of the story, the person said, it made more sense to continue airing rolling breaking news coverage in the fraught political moment.
Given the gravity and complexity of this unfolding story, NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC have remained in rolling breaking news coverage since Saturday evening, a spokesperson for NBCUniversal News Group said in a statement to CNN. As we continue to cover this story into the week, the networks will continue to cross simulcast, alternating between NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC Reports, so there is one news feed covering this developing situation..............................

I think not.
This is the kind of crap why we are where we are today. A disgruntled CBS employee writes a book calling out the libural media, and the CEOs decide we have to play the both sides game, allowing blatant lies to go unchallenged thinking that will demonstrate objectivity, and stop being referenced as the liberal media.
What has that accomplished? They are still called the liberal media, even though 90% of talk radio fills the airwaves with right wing hate and dribble.

(69,626 posts)looking forward to Politics Nation. Basically, my TV has been off for the news since Saturday. 24/7 coverage of tRump, is not what many of us do not want to see. Plus. the incident did not change his agenda. He's more defiant as ever.
Rhiannon12866
(258,542 posts)But yesterday, as you said, it was a complete day of Trump shooting programming, looks like it came from NBC. According to the listings, regular programming is scheduled for today, but if they're preempting Morning Joe, I'm not optimistic. I just checked and they were still showing NBC programming about the shooting. And I agree that this shooting changed nothing regarding TFG, if anything it sounds like he's likely angrier, if that's possible. And if the RNC Convention is starting today, they'll likely be showing that.
bdamomma
(69,626 posts)double whammed here, Con-vention is on all week, yuk. Looks like no talk of Project 2025. Maybe other programming for many of us for the week. Looks like ratings will go down.

I'm beginning to think this is how people in Russia and Hungary are force fed with crap news (propaganda) from their authoritarian leaders.

Yep it's been moving that way here for years and now, with the SCOTUS in their employ, they are sealing the airways and press.

(16,408 posts)working this big story. Clicking on MSNBC right now I don't recognize either anchor at the anchor desk. And it's a different team from the OTA NBC broadcast.
A typical TV front-office bullshit move. This is how you get people to call their agents or start sending out resume tapes - or as we used to call them, escape tapes.

It's been three solid days of re-airing the onstage video, hearing officials say an investigation is underway, and interviews of Repugs who attended the rally explain how precious tfg is.
Meanwhile, Fox keeps chiseling off chunks of Biden.

I think NBC probably planned to replace all shows with the generic coverage, but when everyone tuned out or complained, they changed course, so it ended up just being Morning Joe that was sacrificed. lol.

(181,878 posts)I watched the entire interview and was also very irked at Holt and the way this interview was conducted. I had heard earlier that President Biden was stuttering and did not handle himself well in this interview. I was very pleased with President Biden's performance in this unfair interview. There was no stuttering and President Biden answered all of the questions and then pointed out Holt's double standard.
I agree with Morning Joe on the way that Holt conducted this interview

On Monday night, as the Republican National Convention kicked into high gear, NBC released the sitdown interview between Holt and Biden and, on Tuesday morning, Scarborough shared a clip and expressed his displeasure at what transpired.
Speaking with fellow MSNBC host Al Sharpton, Scarborough stated he needed to address Holt's obsession with getting Biden to admit he has engaged in violent rhetoric and needs to tone down his criticism of the former president.
"We just need to talk about that line of questioning from NBC's Lester Holt," the MSNBC host stated after the clip ended. "It was an important question to ask, about what President Biden said in a private fundraiser to donors. It's a question I would have asked. I think any of us would have asked that question, but to ask that question without any context, about the politically violent rhetoric that Republicans have been engaged in for close to a decade now."
"We could talk about Nancy Pelosi, we could talk about the assassinations of Joint Chiefs, the hangings of Mike Pence. We could go on and on and on. We could talk about it on both sides. Again, a good question to ask about what he said in a private fundraiser a good question to ask, I would have asked the same question. But to ask that question absent of any context seems to me to be you talk about a phony moral relativism."
"It was screaming throughout that part of the interview, and I must say, I was shocked," he added.
