(60,429 posts)As an American living in Europe and speaking nine European languages, I always get an earful from the people in the countries I work in. Im low-hanging fruit because if I say I dont understand, they know Id be lying.
Theyre jealous when we have a Democratic president, and they mock me unmercifully when we have a Republican president. Thats the short version of course, but even so, it pretty much sums up the last 30 or do years for me.

(19,284 posts)It's easier to control a fearful and distracted populace. We're also more effectively manipulated when the manufactured issues that divide us are kept at 50/50 polling numbers. Corporate media propagandists can easily tip the scales in the direction they want when we're evenly split.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
