Really bizarre to me that the natural human reaction when hearing gun shots and seeing someone on a stage react to said gunshots is to drop and run as fast as possible...
Nobody moved behind the stage...not a single one...didn't drop to the floor, didn't fall over each other to get the hell out of there...nothing...
Doesn't that seem strange?

(28,612 posts)These were real humans (republicans but humans nevertheless) and real gunshots. What natural reaction source are you comparing them to?

(53,669 posts)It was a very brief moment in time. People were settled in for the speech. It was hot, they were tired.
I though the public's reaction very normal and expected.

Is the MAGA crowd too hungry for drama ? They did not move a muscle to get to safety. They stood frozen and watched the Secret Service wrestle trDUMP to the floor behind the podium.

(21,818 posts)The footage I saw, people screamed and dropped to the ground, at least until Trump got back up.

(28,612 posts)There's a scene in a coliseum (fighting pits of Mereen) where the "Sons of the Harpy" attack and (eventually) a dragon shows up to save Daenerys.
I happen to have just seen it for the second time last week and it's unintentionally hilarious. It's a minutes-long scene and if you ignore the action in front of you and pay attention to the extras in the stands... all they do is run left and right... up and down the stairs... over and over again for about five minutes of screentime.
I remember clips from the 2011 tsunami in Japan. I don't remember any conspiracy theorists telling us "that's not how people run from giant waves!" - because we all know that they run straight down the street in front of them (just like Godzilla or Alien attacks)

(17 posts)...who doesn't duck and run as a natural reaction...not conspiracy theory-ing here...just seemed really odd to me.

(28,612 posts)And the report from the shot comes well after the round
You're ignoring that - in the moment - humans don't have the perception that you do after watching the scene on slo-mo twenty-five times. They don't know where the shots are coming from (they often don't know that they are shots at all). Almost everyone got down in the videos I've seen... at which time it isn't clear that there is anywhere safer than where they are (with dozens of armed guards)
Sympthsical
(10,819 posts)Those people were much farther behind Trump than the camera makes it seem, and the bullets hit the bleachers to the left of Trump. The people behind him were not struck or hearing/seeing bullets land around them.
If you look at additional footage, the people on the bleachers that were in the line of fire were ducked/lying down. They knew right away.
When you're in a crowd and hearing popping sounds, it is not always readily apparent what you're listening to. Because it's an unusual event, the mind doesn't immediately register obvious danger. However, if you're law enforcement or a veteran, etc. you might be quicker to react from experience. You know what you're hearing.
I posted a pic of the layout that might give you a better idea.

(5,370 posts)There are no marches of support for TFG. No crying people outside Mar-a-lago. I'm sure if there had been, I'd have heard about them. I live in a red state. Everyone is going on about their business. Absolutely no one is talking about this. I don't know what to make of it. Have people become that numb?
