(17,580 posts)Allegheny county. You probably have to be a true believer to register as an L. While I think Americans all have a latent libertarian streak, few subscribe to the entire libertarian belief system.

(114,667 posts)What we know specifically about the kid is that he was a shy kid, an outsider, and heavily bullied and thought guns were the answer. We know he died wearing a t-shirt from one of the more pernicious gun & bomb sites on YouTube.
I'm seeing this more as suicide by cop. I have no idea what his attitude toward TFG was, or if he thought about him, at all, except as a means to go out in glory and a hail of bullets.

(20,855 posts)There is a small strain of far right loonies who think Trump is too soft or may have supported him at one point but now feel betrayed because the wall wasnt built, fill in the blank. We could probably sit here all night and come up with hundreds of potential motives, though.

Suggests something smelly, no?

(131,217 posts)So often these shooters are young, messed-up guys who have some imaginary or unknown personal grudge or want to do something that will ensure they will be noticed and remembered. It appears that Crooks intended to shoot a lot of people and not just Trump, but shooting Trump as part of the show would ensure he got even more attention than all those school shooters put together (since obviously shooting 30 kids isn't as big a deal as putting a scratch on Trump's ear). The fact that there were Trump signs on his front lawn indicated that one or both parents were supporters; maybe he wanted to shoot Trump just to piss off his parents. Since he didn't have a social media presence that we know of, we might never know (unless his parents know and eventually talk about it).

(11,875 posts)He might have tried this if it were Biden doing a stump speech and it could be that the bottom line is that he wanted to be a famous shooter doing something epic.
He does fit the school shooter profile.

(19,749 posts)shootings are not about academics/education. IOW, maybe this shooting at a political rally was about shooting rather than politics.

(15,523 posts)So, the guy is a registered Republican, and had Trump signs, but then forms a half baked, insane plan to assassinate Trump. Why?
And why did that police sniper seem to have the guy in his sights, and yet let him squeeze off at least one shot before taking him out?
And why in the heck didn't the Secret Service have their own sniper on that very same roof?
I doubt we will ever know this guy's actual motive.
Kaleva
(40,431 posts)He might have been a supporter of Trump. He might have been a supporter of Nikki Haley or some other Republican. Or he could be someone like my wife who is registered to vote but cares little for politics

Theory 2: His mom or sister expressed concern over the threat that trump poses so he did what he did to defend his mom and the country.
