I watched the entire interview and was also very irked at Holt and the way this interview was conducted. I had heard earlier that President Biden was stuttering and did not handle himself well in this interview. I was very pleased with President Biden's performance in this unfair interview. There was no stuttering and President Biden answered all of the questions and then pointed out Holt's double standard.
I agree with Morning Joe on the way that Holt conducted this interview

On Monday night, as the Republican National Convention kicked into high gear, NBC released the sitdown interview between Holt and Biden and, on Tuesday morning, Scarborough shared a clip and expressed his displeasure at what transpired.
Speaking with fellow MSNBC host Al Sharpton, Scarborough stated he needed to address Holt's obsession with getting Biden to admit he has engaged in violent rhetoric and needs to tone down his criticism of the former president.
"We just need to talk about that line of questioning from NBC's Lester Holt," the MSNBC host stated after the clip ended. "It was an important question to ask, about what President Biden said in a private fundraiser to donors. It's a question I would have asked. I think any of us would have asked that question, but to ask that question without any context, about the politically violent rhetoric that Republicans have been engaged in for close to a decade now."
"We could talk about Nancy Pelosi, we could talk about the assassinations of Joint Chiefs, the hangings of Mike Pence. We could go on and on and on. We could talk about it on both sides. Again, a good question to ask about what he said in a private fundraiser a good question to ask, I would have asked the same question. But to ask that question absent of any context seems to me to be you talk about a phony moral relativism."
"It was screaming throughout that part of the interview, and I must say, I was shocked," he added.

(5,513 posts)Following that sentence with 'all Fascist, wannabe dictator tyrants' should be assassinated, is violent rhetoric, but Joe never said that.

Biden is not a nerdy "new kid". Biden is a political black belt.
Holt apparently confused Biden with Trump in terms of political experience and figured he could get the answers he wanted for his narrative with leading questions and gotcha appeals.

(5,815 posts)I generally regard Holt as a good journalist. Not last night.
During the interview, I posted here - when are we going to have trump do a non Fox interview to ask him about his rhetoric?
What really irks me is that - we still don't know that this was politically motivated.
What we know so far is the shooter was a registered republican
He donated to a democratic PAC when he was not even old enough to vote
He was known to be a loner who was bullied in high school
He was known to be conservative, according to classmates
Neighbors have said there were trump signs in the yard previously
I read somewhere about family conflicts (Can't remember where I read it and I don't see that was widely reported)
I don't think President Biden should do any more of these interviews. Not unless they are about his policies and what he plans to do in his second term. These "interviews" just seem to be set up for " Gotcha" moments. We get it. He is older, he speaks softer, he has a life long stutter, he trips on his words at times. None of that has anything to do with his cognitive abilities. His naysayers are not going to be convinced by anything he says in these interviews.

(752 posts)and has repeatedly mixed up names and is really the one engaging in violent rhetoric and actions as in saying he'll pardon the 1/6/21 rioters who ransacked the capitol, violently attacked police officers and had a noose for Mike Pence. There was more but Biden was able to get out some really important points that the pro-GOP media isn't covering.

(18,381 posts)and his ilk say going forward as to whether or not THEY are toning down their rhetoric.
I sensed what Joe was trying to convey from a more mature position. Words are just words. IT comes down to HOW they are USED in relaying a message.
Words like Fascism, Dictatorship, Anti-American, Anti-Democratic are NOT violence inciting words. They are adjectives describing intentions. Joe Biden did that.

(8,883 posts)...for Holt to try to make a big deal of the word "bullseye" and I loved that Biden was quick to make the distinction between that word and "crosshairs".

Heres the thing with us old people we actually remember when Lester Holt was the first Black anchor, back when it was a position of dignity.

(236 posts)Holt has any acquaintance with Clooney and agrees that this President is not up to the job? (Just a petty and sarcastic thought)
I cut the cord 14 years ago over stupid and manipulative garbage like this. These news entertainment stars are mostly not actual journalists, but scoop seekers who will do just about anything to get their condescending crap on the air and do as much damage as possible.
