I now think it's just an irrelevant song and dance a few Democratic politicians are playing with a few megadonors.
The rich donors want to feel big for a while, and a few democratic politicians are willing to play along for a big check or two.
In the end, it won't matter. Biden isn't going anywhere, and once he has officially locked in the renomination, even the politicians who took the money will have to fall in line. By November this will all be ancient history, dwarfed by the events of the next 4 months.
The big donors might not be thrilled, but what are they gonna do? They'll know it's too late for a switch after that point. All they can do is support or. Or support Biden. Either way, it won't be big news.
If I'm being cynical, maybe a few of the Democratic pols figured this out and basically took what they think amounts to free money. All they had to do was make an empty statement that ultimately means nothing.
If I'm being super cynical, maybe they even made a deal with Biden, where the Democratic pol takes the money now, and after the check clears and the nomination is locked in, they share it with the Biden campaign or otherwise help out.
I guess we shall see how this plays out in the months ahead.
In any event, it's all a tempest in a teapot.

(19,382 posts)By November, most will have voted especially democratic voters. Other states begin the next week. Its too late to screw around with the nominee. Somebody needs to scream that the election begins in September in many states. Maybe that will finally shut up everyone in this nonsense.
