...seems to be the common response to stories about Democratic officials, candidates, pundits and voters who would like to see Biden step down as our nominee.
Let me suggest that, regardless of whether Biden stays as nominee or not, this anger isn't a great way of rebuilding Party support. If you have evidence that non-Biden Democrats want the Party to lose, please share it. Otherwise, everyone is expressing the strategy they think is best for success in November.

(4,581 posts)I'm just a regular person,,,, no where close to DC or political type people.
While I have my opinion, I appreciate the folks that have worked with or for someone and have some experience with them. Doesn't mean I just roll over with my beliefs but I absolutely want to hear what they have to say and respect it.

(1,939 posts)As I understand it, it goes something like this.
First, we ignore everything that says we might be in trouble.
Second, we disavow everyone who is worried.
Third, if (god forbid) we lose, then it will be the fault of those who worried.

(8,316 posts)They can be -- and have been -- wrong.
Just like those that Biden would lose the New Hampshire primary because he was not on the ballot and did not mount a write-in campaign.
Trust the voters and back the nominee that we voted for -- is this that hard to do?

(11,759 posts)It said that Dems were concerned about some internal polling results they recently did in swing states of Trump vs Biden.
I didnt hear any discussion of which states and what the margins were.
Are you privy to any party internal polling of swing states that you feel comfortable in sharing here?

(96,882 posts)The polls you're referencing are Battleground State polls showing Biden losing but Democratic Senate candidates winning. That tells me some Pro-Democratic voters are choosing not to vote for President at all.
YouGov polled seven battleground states Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin between July 4 - 12, 2024 for the Times and SAY24, a joint project of Stanford, Arizona State, and Yale Universities.
The poll shows the long odds President Joe Biden faces for getting re-elected. He trails in all seven states, six of which he won in 2020 a significant decline from his position in those states in March.
The positive news for Democrats in the poll is the performance of their Senate candidates in the same states. There are Senate races in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin this year. In each state a Democrat holds the seat now; two are open races and three seats are being defended by incumbent Democrats. And in each state the Democratic candidate is running ahead of Biden, while leading their Republican opponent by a margin of at least 7 points.

(5,678 posts)Everything was fine up until the debate. And that's the reason? That really undermines confidence in the ability to think in terms of political reality of the leadership of this party. Either they are guilty of gross ignorance, or there's been something else going on that no one has been talking about until now.
You are right. Anger isn't the best way to rebuild party support. But the manner in which this has been handled is responsible for the anger. There are a lot of people out here, myself included, who have invested a considerable amount of time, money and energy into Biden's re-election. We believe that Trump is the existential threat to democracy that our party leaders have said he is, in unanimous chorus. But now they want to treat us like we're unimportant, while a few oligarchs who are friend with some deep pockets give us a new theme to which we are supposed to commit.
My contribution may not amount to more than a couple thousand dollars over a two year period of time when this is all over. I don't hold an elected office. But I've put in between 20 and 30 hours a quarter in volunteer time since 2016. And I think my opinion should count, not just a handful of elected officials and a few big donors.
And I'm saying, from what I'm seeing. If this doesn't get handled in a way that assures us all we are on the same page and all of our best interests are considered, we will lose this.

So I see no point in getting upset about a situation we can do nothing about but observe .
