Biden responded by pushing back and being defensive about the polls, telling Pelosi he has seen polls that indicate he can win. At one point, Pelosi asked Mike Donilon, Bidens longtime adviser, to get on the line to talk over the data.
This phone call would mark the second known conversation between Pelosi and Biden since the June 27 debate.
One source described it as being within the last week. Pelosi and Biden also spoke in early July.
WH response to this CNN reporting, from Andrew Bates:
President Biden is the nominee of the party. He plans to win, and looks forward to working with congressional Democrats to pass his 100 days agenda to help working families.
A Pelosi spokesperson told CNN that Pelosi has been in California since Friday and she has not spoken to Biden since.

Update with article:
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi privately told President Joe Biden in a recent conversation that polling shows that the president cannot defeat Donald Trump and that Biden could destroy Democrats chances of winning the House in November if he continues seeking a second term, according to four sources briefed on the call.
The president responded by pushing back, telling Pelosi he has seen polls that indicate he can win, one source said. Another one of the sources described Biden as getting defensive about the polls. At one point, Pelosi asked Mike Donilon, Bidens longtime adviser, to get on the line to talk over the data.
This phone call would mark the second known conversation between the California lawmaker and Biden since the presidents disastrous debate on June 27. While the exact date of the conversation was not clear, one source described it as being within the last week. Pelosi and Biden also spoke in early July.
None of the sources indicated whether Pelosi told Biden in this conversation that she believes the president should drop out of the 2024 race.

(2,634 posts)the media would continue running with this.
Personally, I think this is a sign that the corporate media are beginning to become very nervous that Biden MIGHT defeat Trump. The SOTU was a shot across the bow, something they weren't expecting, and they seized on Biden's performance (perhaps showing the first signs of Covid?) at the debate to bring out the big guns.
We keep thinking that Biden SHOULD be winning at this point, but from where I'm sitting, all the the polls tell me is that despite the massive amount of mudslinging, Biden is holding his own. We haven't had the Dem convention yet, the GOP convention has been a shitshow, and yet Biden is holding his own.
There's also more good news - Cannon is no longer in charge of the Trump document case and Jack Smith is taking it to the appeals court, Trump will be sentenced in early September JUST as early voting starts, and there are new indictments regarding destruction of electronic evidence that are turning into another criminal case. Oh, and Trump keeps falling asleep on national TV at his own convention, further undermining the narrative.

Source: Forbes
(My opinion is, these office leaks, unnamed sources, anonymous reports, etc. are all media made up drama for ratings. So far, ABC and CNN have been the most prolific offenders for starting rumors and other outlets print without verification.)

Just because "we" don't like a news report doesn't make it not true. "We" believe things should be discussed openly instead of swept under the rug or pretend it doesn't exist. "We" learned a long time ago that "we" can't will something to exist or not exist. This new is all over the tv and internet. Should it not be discussed here on Democratic Underground?

We are just amplifying the media pile on . Worthless polls and anonymous sources are not helpful and for many it is depressing and demoralizing.

(7,046 posts)Otherwise, you are spreading rumors and are incredibly incompetent and unprofessional as a journalist. You should be fired.
And no, the parties involved in these alleged discussions do not have to prove otherwise. Staying silent and not acknowledging them is the best way to defend against this kind of crap.
Shades of 2016 and the Russian interference against Hillary Clinton. This sounds sooo much like that.

(1,876 posts)I'm done with the MSM and their ghost sources. If people can't talk with their big chests then they need to stfu. The MSM has an agenda to divide and demoralize the Democratic base. I can't wait for the convention. I don't believe it will be contentious. I believe a few days before the convention begins we'll hear about calls for unity.

I've never really used my journalism degree but I still feel like I need to see more attribution before this stops feeling like we're being played.
