(60,320 posts)Apps capture the most data and the most identifying data, and thus are the most valuable to companies and sometimes to their government overlords. There is no control over duration or blockage.
Cookies capture less data and so are less valuable plus they can be blocked or routinely wiped (when browser is exited).
It seems a good compromise. I block X and restrict TikTok. I block by default.

(60,320 posts)Counter-prop and initiate propagation of good news! The mass media are waning and we have power by other means including social media.
Whenever possible, share good news. This is not pollyanna style of "Oh think unicorns and flowers and butterflies". Nor is it yet another delightful puppy/kitten video, though those have their place and uses.
This is things like: such-and-such union achieved a great wage settlement, improved working conditions; a community organized to help vulnerable people with health care; a new tech helps people manage social media usage better, ... whatever it is.
Celebrate wins, advances, victories. Include details as to how things got done.
Workers have power. The middle class has power. Wealth and income inequality are the greatest single cause of middle/working class woes. We can change that. It will change, one way or another because it is not sustainable. We can change it peacefully (with some unrest) through political power and that is vastly preferable to violent revolution.
Oh, and by the way, expose Vance's attempt to subvert middle class power while plotting middle class tax hikes coupled with rich tax cuts.
The middle class and working poor are the Democratic power base. Republicans call it class warfare when we win for our base. So be it. Make them feel it.
"Yes, we can!"

(9,056 posts)and you are so right. I've been saying for a long time we do not have to let the media force us to fill the time with responses to their propaganda and instead we need to push into those spaces as much as we can with as much good news about all the good things we've gotten done with Joe.

(9,056 posts)have been seeing all of the industrial parks now have all the help wanted signs out and it's been that way for a couple of years now. Years ago in the '70's when we lost so many jobs those signs went away and I thought they would never come back. Lower drug prices, higher wages, lot's of infrastructure projects going on and a renewed relationship with our allies and so much more. All accomplished with an obstructionist Congress etc. Good job by Joe and his people.

(7,794 posts)That would be a long, soul-killingly depressing wait. Because their primary goal is to kill any enthusiasm which might encourage you to go to the polls. It's not by coincidence or accident that, in America, the most reliably unbiased source of actual facts about current events is "The Comedy Channel", and has been for over a quarter century.

(98,883 posts)of GlassSteagall, the 1996 communications act, and Citizens United by the Supreme Court, to name a few, which effectively blocked the ability to enact limits on campaign spending. The Citizens United decision opened the floodgates to the billions of dollars that have since poured into the election system, enabling those with access to concentrated wealth to have vastly more influence over our political system than the average American.

(98,883 posts)have reached an existential moment in history where if this election goes the wrong way, it's over.
We can organize and think all the positive thoughts we want, but when you have billionaires throwing massive amounts of money to propagandize the effort against the regular people, I am afraid we may be a day late and a dollar short.
Just look at what is happening within the Democratic party now. Big money donors through fear are trying to push the party's elected nominee out, by pushing the theme that Biden cannot win against trump, and we must have a new candidate, and if that happens, you can almost bet that they will choose a candidate that they view as favorable to their interests.
There is an AP/IPOS poll out today with the headline that 60% of registered Democrats think Biden should step down. After three weeks of the media and big donors pushing publicly that Biden can't win, is there any surprise that would be the polls results. Fear is a very powerful weapon. It persuaded us to invade Iraq based on the WMD lie. Of course what the poll didn't headline was that those Democrats would vote for Biden if he is the nominee.
Social media, the MSM, the press manipulate what people should think. They do that by embedding comentary within reporting the news.
I wish I could be optimistic.
You fell for the surrender first option that the wealthy so helpfully provide.
Over and done for you.
