In my political universe that is not open to Joe stepping down. I believe the poll that states 60 some percent of Dems want a different candidate. I think internal polling must be abysmal.
We have to trust that Nancy, Schiff, Jeffries, Obama etc know something we do not. I have always trusted them in the past. This is pretty dramatic thing for them to be doing unless there is real danger of losing. I just dont see them behaving like this for nefarious reasons.
Just vote D no matter what.
I do love Joe, but I fear a Trump presidency more than I do protecting Joe Bidens existing candidacy.

(3,396 posts)What a joke.
The people voted. If they wanted a different candidate they should have gotten to the fucking polls.

(42,037 posts)In my opinion the last 48 hours, the stories of senior democrats leaning on Biden and including the frightening prospect of J.D. Vance anywhere near the levers of power, is causing people to slowly come around to the idea of him stepping down.
I have always been on Team Joe. I love him. But I also have discovered just how much I love this country. I want what is best for America.

(2,421 posts)Who is this magical candidate that can beat trump. Sniping behind the scenes demoralizes the base.
We dont need palace intrigue and tv gossip. We need to get behind Joe. People always want someone different no one is going to be everyones fantasy candidate. What they are doing is hurting the party and the country, it needs to stop.

(23,720 posts)DU is open to Joe Biden stepping down. Members are permitted to discuss what might happen in the event that he chooses to do so.
DU is not open to Joe Biden being forced to step down. Members are not permitted to advocate for our nominee to be replaced.
The policy that DU members must support the nominee during general election season has been in place for the last 20 years and I see absolutely no reason to change it now. Once primary season had concluded, we did not allow Dean supporters to undermine John Kerry in 2004, we did not allow Hillary Clinton supporters to undermine Barack Obama in 2008, and we did not allow Bernie Sanders supporters to undermine Hillary Clinton in 2016.
We are not going to change the policy this year to accommodate "Anyone But Biden" Democrats who want undermine Joe Biden, for as long as he is the nominee.
This is not about a cult of personality. If Joe Biden is not the nominee, then DU will pivot to support whomever replaces him. I imagine quite a lot of people will be very upset if that happens, but defeating Trump is the priority.
However, until that happens, Joe Biden is the nominee, and as such, he is protected by longstanding DU policies.
Now I'm going to lock this, because I've been clear on this and it's not up for debate.
