This is more about powerful people attempting to assert dominance.

(3,645 posts)By the way, has Obama said anything to the press about this?
soandso
(1,631 posts)But rumors from "sources" have been written about:
Obama tells allies Bidens path to winning reelection has greatly diminished
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/07/18/obama-says-biden-must-consider-viability/
If anything, it looks like Obama is remaining above the fray.

(2,248 posts)And that's not a knock.
It's why he was able to win two terms.
Obama will toe the line just enough so that he doesn't get in a death blow. But I can absolutely see Obama leaning on Biden because he realizes congressional Democrats are content sinking Biden to save their own butts and that puts his reelection chances in jeopardy. So, from Obama's point of view, he absolutely might tell Biden maybe you need to look at dropping out but it's entirely because he sees how things are playing out and the damage it'll likely do to Biden if he decides to stay in.
Does that make sense? I don't think he's pushing Biden to drop out but I can see him telling Biden that the firing squad has circled and there might be no other option than to drop out.

(3,645 posts)There are some posters here, who I respect and I think are really bright, who are really clinging to what they believe the polls say. I just think that what is going on is a cover, for example, some of the billionaires who actually would not be happy with some of Biden's policies.
iemanja
(57,757 posts)there is very little thought that goes into these very popular opinions, but they satisfy the majority.

(57,757 posts)You and many others here. You insist that the forces pushing Biden out are 1) racist (ignoring Kamala is the likely successor) 2) want tax cuts for the wealthy (because that's exactly what a Democratic alternative would do, and if that's what the donors cared about they'd be donating to the GOP.) 3) They really want Trump elected (Yes, Pelosi's lifelong dream). You all do everything to oversimplify the concerns because you don't actually want to take them seriously.
It's possible to point out counterarguments to the notion of Biden stepping down, like how it would throw the nomination process into disarray and create ballot issues. It is possible to disagree with the reasons that the various politicians are concerned about Biden as the nominee--I won't repeat those here because you only need to read the newspapers you've all decided are "fake" news to learn them--while still reflecting on them. But someone you refuse to accommodate that complexity (though it's really not very complex) and trivialize it all into a simplistic argument that defies logic. Hey, it's popular though, and that's what matters. You'll get lots of recs, and objects from about four people, which you knew very well when you pretended that you'd be "flamed."

(3,645 posts)I think the polls are a cover story for something else-like fear of losing large donors.

(1,076 posts)Also, have you been called and polled? We haven't....so where are they getting these polling numbers from? Just saying...

(1,631 posts)even suggest that Harris will be his replacement? I haven't and would say that's a pretty big assumption considering forcing the incumbent president and primary winner out is unprecedented - meaning it's awfully hard to expect any next moves. I agree with you on the over simplification, though, and calling all media coverage "fake news".
iemanja
(57,757 posts)many, many times. And they've taken polls to see how she does.
soandso
(1,631 posts)and, you're right, I have read or heard about such polls. I'm not certain that those orchestrating all of this are advocating her. We shall see, I guess.

(2,248 posts)You don't full-on panic shit yourself after a marginal shift in polling where you guy only trails in major swing states within the MOE.
This is about elite donors deciding that they'll extort congressional Democrats in hopes of persuading them to come out against Biden.
We have evidence of this already:
