Or something like the "Gom Jabbar" from "Dune?" What exactly do these Big Donors want for their mony ("Midnight Cowboy" spelling version)?

There will be a lot EXCITEMENT alright!!!! After that, they will have even more reason to withhold donations. I remember how damaged Carter was by the challenge from Kennedy. People were talking about a brokered convention when Carter already had enough votes to get the nomination.
What remains to be seen is if Pelosi can rein them in or if the benjamins will rule.

(6,947 posts)If they want Biden out badly enough, I would think that gives him tremendous leverage in the choice of successor, i.e. "I will step aside only if Kamala Harris gets the nomination."

(3,921 posts)She's qualified for the job, has the smarts/ability to make the Dem case, is the first female/black VP. She's never lost a race. The upside is there. There is no guaranteed win, but the ability to run an energetic and aggressive campaign exists if she's the nominee in a way that it does not now - especially if we pick a good VP from a swing state like Shapiro.

(1,648 posts)She is there in case Biden cannot or is forced out chooses not to serve. I knew good and well that an 80 year old may not be able to finish the term and also knew who his replacement would be.
If this Biden must go stuff becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy then fine, Ive already voted on a Plan B. In fact Id just as soon that Biden resign and give Kamala some governing experience but it would have to happen ASAP. I think she would step up to the moment. If she doesnt and it turns out to be disastrous then the delegates could think about someone else, but as far as Im concerned I voted for her too and that should count for something. The only real risk would be that we might be without a VP for a while if the House didnt approve one, but I think it would be worth the risk so we could get an idea of what a Harris administration might look like.
If she wanted her popularity among Democrats to improve there are a few things she could do right away, like asking for Merrick Garlands resignation.

I wouldn't be surprised if this "strategy" of getting Biden to step aside and have an open convention wasn't formulated by Steve Bannon and/or Roger Stone. I wasn't sure until the open convention was introduced into the fold.
