(54,410 posts)A controversial veteran political analyst claims to have a detailed picture of imminent plans for President Joe Biden to exit the 2024 presidential race.
https://www.rawstory.com/newsmax-report-biden-dropout/
According to Mark Halperin in a post on X, "Multiple sources outline the apparent state of play on Biden at this time: plans to announce withdrawal from nomination as early as this weekend, with Sunday most likely; Jon Meacham polishing up remarks; Biden will NOT resign the presidency; Biden will NOT endorse Harris; open convention with Harris and about 3 others; super delegates will not be allowed to vote on 1st ballot; Harris is vetting at least four possible running mates, including Andy Beshear and possibly [Josh] Shapiro."

In a segment on the right-wing network Newsmax, Halperin added that California Gov. Gavin Newsom is also in consideration for Harris' running mate; however, Halperin did not explain how Harris would in that case circumvent the 12th Amendment restriction on two people from the same state on one ticket.
He did not elaborate on his sources for any of these claims, and Andrew Bates, a senior White House assistant, responded by saying, "this fan fiction is wrong." Halperin used to be a prominent political commentator for NBC News, but was fired in 2017 after a number of women came forward to accuse him of sexual harassment. He went on for a time to advise No Labels, a bipartisan group that unsuccessfully sought to run a third-party presidential candidate this year, and is currently working as a commentator for far-right Newsmax.

Regardless of Halperin's claims, other sources have also reported that Biden is weighing a possible announcement of withdrawal from the race as early as this weekend, although officials close to the president continue to assert this is not the case and Biden has every intention to continue his campaign.

(9 posts)he should have never run for re-election. I'm glad he's not dropping out because history says it's a bad idea.

(4,259 posts)... that every word we hear from a network news anchor's mouth about Biden is a bald-faced lie composed by an oligarch's or Putin's lackey.
Can't tell one from the other without a program.

(23,953 posts)how much of the online media reports are being generated by AI, do you think? Especially the headline articles?

(10,969 posts)But some online news spaces have been caught. I'm thinking of an incident with Sports Illustrated not too long ago. A lot of clickbait celebrity news sites have been caught out. Some science articles (from sites I have issues with anyway) seem to be constructed that way.
But for major news and information, for all the shit it gets, the MSM is probably fine. If the NYT, for example, got caught out with AI, their reputation would take a major hit, such as it is. I doubt they'd risk it.

I wish Trump was an AI creation, but unfortunately orange julius is real.

(2,716 posts)We have had insinuation and editorializing presented as fact. This is from the general "news" organizations as well as talking heads like Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann who are allegedly on "our" side. Hell, we are actually being told falsehoods openly, which the targets of the falsehoods have had to state publicly the falsehoods are false.
It is totally cynical. They are literally manufacturing a "crisis" some in the Democratic Party have swallowed hook, line, and sinker. They are doing it for the money.
