he was telling it like it is and that I could trust him.
What news person do you miss?

(40,855 posts)When I was a kid my dad, home from his union job, would pop open a beer and watch the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite. But I think he would have preferred someone a little further to the left.
My dad was an artist with a day job and a pacifist. During the Korean war he was a nearsighted Radar O'Reilly medical clerk. It was just the luck of the draw he didn't end up in Korea.
Both my parents were anti-war activists. During the Vietnam war we were Quakers. My mom's dad was a Conscientious Objector during World War II. His compromise was to build and repair ships for the Merchant Marine.
I quit television news and opinion entirely in the disgusting run-up to the war in Iraq. I don't miss any of it.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
