Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the ONLY barriers preventing the hostile takeover of the Democratic party by an unholy cabal of white billionaire elites & Never Trump Republicans. If they succeed they will have effectively ENDED the power of the Black & brown vote.

While the help of some of them to defend our democracy is welcomed they can go back and rescue their own party once this election's over instead of trying tell us how to drive this car. There's a million damn good reason's to never trust a republican.
Go home and rebuild your own house.

The key to Biden's success is that the Republicans have been unable to specifically target him as an object of enmity. Unlike Obama (Black man) and Clinton ( "Slick Willie" ), whom the Republicans could hamper and cripple their agendas, Biden has been able to maneuver around the obstacles set in front of him by Congressional Republicans and a couple of recalcitrant Democrats (I'm talking to you Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema) due to his experience and understanding of the institution he was a part of for 50 years. By letting Democratic leadership in Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi and most recently Hakeem Jeffries, do the heavy lifting and take on the fighting, Joe Biden appeared to be above the fray while the Senate Republicans were rendered inert and House Republicans began eating their own and sinking into disarray. All the while, he's been carrying most of Bernie Sanders' agenda further than even Sanders himself could have hoped for. z
His selection of Kamala Harris not only secured the Black vote, it was also his insurance policy. As he cited Harry Truman's quote: "If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog." he knew that he would be making enemies within his own party; mainly the remaining corporate Democrats and those seeking reelection and dependent on corporate donations to fund their campaigns for re-election. The donor class, when they heard him mention his endorsement of a "billionaire's tax", knew they had to swing into action not seen since the "The Business Plot" against FDR. Never mind that 14 million Democratic voters made their wishes known, overwhelmingly, nor did they have any other plan to replace him. More importantly, Kamala Harris would be an obstacle. What good is getting rid of Biden, if Kamala remains for the remainder of his term and even "worse" would run for her own term on what would be a successful record? No, they needed them both to be out the way. So, they picked his most vulnerable spot; his age. In a presidency where he has avoided serious missteps, he made a serious one; he chose to debate Donald Trump after an exhausting trip overseas where he caught a serious cold. In retrospect, he should have rescheduled the debate until he felt better, instead of powering through and when up against a pathological liar and a lapdog media outlet who would be merciless toward him, he performed badly.
It was all the opportunity needed to attack him and try to pressure him to step aside "for the good of the country". Meanwhile the punditocracy, who never liked Biden in the first place, piled on in order to create the impression that his age made him incapable of appealing to the ephemeral "voter" that their polls (however dubious the source) surveyed. All this to create FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt) amongst the electorate, while completely ignoring Trumps lies and even more apparent cognitive decline. Even after his subsequent interviews with George Stephanopoulos, Lester Holt and the speech at the NAACP, it wasn't sufficient enough to allay their fears and concerns. But then, even if he stood on his head and cited the Gettysburg Address, it would never suffice. The media repeating stories from "unnamed sources" and "insiders" created a drumbeat and narrative that caused "skeerdy cat" backstabbers and backbenchers would publicly split with Biden and ultimately force Biden to withdraw/resign. I would remind you that in 2016, it was these same "sources" and "insiders" that "predicted" that Trump would withdraw following the "Grab 'em by the p**sy" incident, and they wrong then as well.
Politics is about power and power is about leverage. And the "step aside crowd" hasn't any. Joe Biden has the delegates, the support of Black voters and most importantly, the majority of the Democratic electorate. So long as he stands his ground, there's nothing they can do to make him step down. And especially after the middling RNC convention with the rambling, incoherent acceptance speech by Trump even after the assassination attempt by one of his fellow conservative Republicans, the polls have them basically in a dead heat with 4 months to go before the general election. And the selection of J.D. Vance as VP, this should be the proverbial 8 ball in the corner pocket.
That they are willing to risk alienating the Black vote and create chaos at the convention, shows the desperation of the oligarch wannabes to get rid of Biden/Harris. The affirmation of Jeffries, the confirmation of a dying Sheila Jackson Lee and the emphatic resolution of Biden himself to "stay the course" has not deterred them one bit. Therefore, they and their paid mouthpieces should be ignored. In fact, there's a movement afoot to turn them off for 1 week (I believe) starting on July 21st to send a message that their parroting of the oligarchic message is not tolerated. I fully encourage that message be echoed far and wide.
To conclude. FDR was right, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." We have seen the enemies: the fascists on the right and the "economic royalists" who would welcome them into power through Trump and his cronies. Let us face them unflinchingly and defeat them as our grandparents did in WW2. We have nothing to fear and everything to gain. Keep the faith.

(15,521 posts)Why should someone who has freakishly spent their whole life amassing huge amounts of money want black and brown people to vote? That might endanger their ability to amass even more wealth by squeezing the poor and middle class.
This is a class war to the max, and these people calling for Biden to step down are playing right into the hands of the greed-heads and kluxers. What a fucking unholy alliance.
