General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThings are going to get ugly if Democrats lose the WH in November.
If Biden loses, one faction will say that it happened because people tried to drive Biden out and the other will say that they were right.
If another Dem loses, one faction will say that we should worship at the altar of Lichtman and should have held onto a winner, while the other says that Biden hung on too long.
If Biden wins, things will calm down for a couple years until a rather unpleasant primary takes place in 2028.
If another Dem wins, things might get swept under the rug for a while because there won't be a competitive primary in 2028.
I'm not saying that these considerations should impact how 2024 plays out. Just predicting the future.

(109,260 posts)And seriously, if something happens to Trump, mark my words:
VANCE. WILL. NOT. LEAVE. OFFICE. PERIOD.
He'd declare himself dictator for life, and he'd have the backing of Fox News and the Heritage Foundation to do so, aided by the ultra corrupt SCOTUS.
That would be a literal nightmare scenario.

Of course the planet will have so many other problems to deal with including irreversible global warming, so it really won't matter what Dems do

(114,671 posts)Honestly... Those I know with means have already made "bug-out" plans. The rest are trying to hold onto that last bit of denial--some expressing grief for children and grandchildren--and others expressing relief that they don't HAVE children and grandchildren. sigh...
No longer hyperbole...

(85,349 posts)I think the right turn in the US will change the US in ways that we can't imagine, but not having an election in 2028 would require a constitutional amendment or something far worse. (Something between the Purge and Handmaids Tail)

(1,750 posts)Or even two, Senate and House, I guarantee they will cave. It is a 100% bet. They don't fight like GOP. You will see there will be enough defections to give Trump the win.
