But if Convict wins.. will those people take any responsibility for that, at all?
FUCK NO they won't.
I need to get over my anger at THAT, and then I'll do everything I can to make sure that what they've now demanded into reality doesn't turn into a clusterfuck that ends up electing an outright fascist.
I'm voting for whomever our nominee is, no doubt.

(39 posts)The economy would collapse under Donald Trump with the backwards, isolationist policies he wants to put in place. I think for most of them, their love for the green $$ outweighs their racism and misogyny.

(15,308 posts)They don't want democracy, because the takers suck off the makers, dontchaknow.
The Heritage Foundation wants the freedom for Landed Gentry and other property owners to do what they will with what they "make", and everyone else will just fall in line and die in a charity house or ditch if they can't keep up.
Tech Bros are all for that.
They also like the idea of Sci-Fi Dystopia, because it's big money guys against big money guys with cool technology. Ego-boos for their fossilized inner 13 year old. The world is all about them, or making more money, with very few of them thinking about the greater world outside their wealth bubbles.

(431 posts)But no way does it hand trump the presidency. Regardless of what everyone says here, there was significant concern among independents and democrats following the debate, perception is huge in politics, I.e Kennedy vs Nixon. Joes performance solidified concern regarding Joes age.
I think independents and undecideds are looking for anyone competent to vote for instead of Trump.

(3,265 posts)Any Democrat is as good as any other in this instance - But I can point out, topic after topic, about people proclaiming that we're going to lose. Because, somehow, Joe Biden is the only one who can draw in enough votes?
If you've got a better name for the group of people who proclaim that only Biden could ever hope to beat Trump, something that you feel would be more appropriate or accurate than Bidenbro or Biden or busters, then by all means. What it is?

(11,144 posts)Yes, a lot of us believe that this is a disaster and it almost guarantees us a loss in November.
But I haven't seen people saying they wouldn't vote for Democrats in this election, so how's about you wait until there's a group of people saying those things before you start creating an out-group to ostracize?
Lancero
(3,265 posts)...Your own comment proves my point.
If these people did not exist, in any way, shape, or form... Then why do you think that Joe Biden stepping down "almost guarantees us a loss in November"?
ms liberty
(11,144 posts)If you'd like to know why, read the multitude of posts about it. You can't make people feel like their vote doesn't count, you can't use backroom politics to change things after the voters have spoken without ending up with less voters. People feel demoralized, disregarded, and their voices ignored in favor of the wealthy and powerful. This is how you shrink your base, not grow it.
Those of us who are committed will vote because we know what the choices are. But apparently, the wealthy, powerful and connected have different rules, and if they don't like the choice, they just change it.
And that's why some people are definitely going to stay at home. They've seen that movie before, day after day in their real lives. It's not Democrats, Independents, Bidenbros or Berniebros. It's people who wash their hands of the whole process because "it's dirty" or "they're all crooks " or "they don't care what we think" and they see this as the evidence of that. It's called voter apathy, not somebodybros.
Lancero
(3,265 posts)...Whatever happened to them being a "non-existent segment"?
You want to claim that the group of people I'm referring to doesn't exist, while simultaneously claiming that DU has been discussing their existence - or at least the potential existence of - for almost a month now?
Whatever.
You know why I recycled that name? Because of the shared ideology. They felt that their votes didn't count. They felt that they were screwed over by shady backroom deals. They believed that wealthy and powerful donors wanted to pick the nominee.
And, of course - "And that's why some people are definitely going to stay at home."
They did that too.
RandomNumbers
(19,143 posts)Sorry, your statement isn't true.
It can be argued whether Harris or any other specific Dem would be better or worse than Biden.
For those on this board, 98% or better of us are "Democrat or bust", at least when we vote.
But to win the election requires appealing to a lot of other voters.
I'll keep my opinion to myself, in this moment at least, but it is NOT a foregone conclusion that just ANY Democrat can step in for Biden.
Lancero
(3,265 posts)The only evidence that would show how better or worse any Democrat can do over another is also evidence that most here would consider inaccurate at best.
It's why voting blue no matter who is so important. It's why we made it our slogan in 2020. Because we knew the risks, we knew the alternative. Sadly, at least given the sheer amount of topics alleging that we've somehow already lost, many here have forgotten those risks.

(1,715 posts)But as soon as the election season is over, it is open season on the f**ks who drove him out.
And of course, I'm sure God-Emperor Trump will come after them anyway too. There's a reason he tells that snake/woman story all of the damn time. He's the snake. (Every accusation is a confession.) These people decided to help Trump, towed (toe-ed?) the republican line and drove Biden out, to help usher Trump in. Do they really think they aren't on his "enemy" list though? That's not getting them off of it. They'll be in the camps alongside the rest of us.

(1,844 posts)Joe dropping out is going to reenergize the Ds. And the big donors are now going to open up their pocketbooks.
Im as big a Joe supporter as anyone, but decision has been made and everyone needs to pull up their big boy and girl pants and support whoever is on the ticket. And even though I am a big Joe supporter, I have pretty much sequestered myself from all the news. It was just too depressing and stressful for my health and so I deliberately made the decision to disengage. But Im very excited now and I think Im not alone in feeling this way.

(14,530 posts)Joe has a spine. He could have defied those calling for him to drop out and soldiered on if he thought that was the right thing to do. Here's the crux: He didn't.
He knows more about the mood of the voters, what the job requires, and his own personal health than any one, and he decided his own political fate.
I respect his decision.

(39 posts)I have many Gen Z folks in my life (kids, students, my patients). They felt completely unheard and unseen with two 80ish men running. They felt unheard and less motivated. This is going to motivate them. The torch needs to be passed. He should have announced he wouldn't run a year ago. I would have voted for Biden, you would have voted for Biden. Most of us here would have, but that wasn't enough to win this election and to think otherwise is out of touch with every voter under the age of 35. We need their votes to win! We need a new generation in charge.
