The Lincoln Project on Biden's Decision

The Lincoln Project thanks President Biden for today’s incredible selflessness by putting the nation’s best interests ahead of politics. Stepping down demonstrates his love of the nation and his unflagging commitment to democracy.

We thank him not only for his actions today, but his lifetime of service to this great nation. We wish him the best. Godspeed, Mr. President.

“We now turn to the target from which the Lincoln Project has never wavered; the political defeat of Donald Trump and the destruction of his autocratic movement,” said Lincoln Project co-founded Rick Wilson. “The felon Donald Trump is a malicious criminal, a gibbering serial liar, and a corrupt autocrat primed for a wipe defeat this fall.”

“We’ve beaten him before. A patriotic, pro-American coalition of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents will beat him again this year,” said Jeff Timmer, Executive Director of the Lincoln Project. “We’ve planned for this moment, and we’re ready to take the fight to Trump every day until his defeat on Election Day.”

He has been very neutral on Biden running again but he said exactly that, that if Biden decided not to run it would be an incredibly selfless act that in his view would actually elevate Biden’s legacy rather than diminish it because of the guts it would take to walk away.

Where Rick said near the end:

". . .if it's a choice between America or Donald Trump, America is gonna win this race. . ."

He said a ham sandwich could beat Trump. Obviously hyperbole but his overarching view is that Trump is beatable.
