This was a curveball they did not expect.
The cult will have to discard all of their Biden paraphernalia and propaganda. It's been a big hit on them financially.
Now, there is only one old guy with dementia left in the race.

(5,112 posts)She's surprised that such a big. tough man is running from a woman. People from the Party of Toxic Masculinity might have a problem with that.
If she does get the nomination and does get to debate him, I want her to eviscerate him without worrying about the "angry black woman" stereotype. In today's political climate, being seen as weak or passive is a lot worse than being seen as angry.
Also, I'm not going to be one bit surprised if he's caught on some audio using the n-word.

Biden did say at one point he would serve one term:
https://www.politico.com/news/2019/12/11/biden-single-term-082129
Which is exactly why I'm not writing off anyone in the Dem leadership for anything... Look how quickly support for Kamala is building and look how pissed off the GOP is.

(3,927 posts)Trump has been able to use Bidens age to deflect and distract from his own age and incoherence.
The discussion of age and competency should not be allowed to just go away. If elected, Trump would become the oldest person to even be President. If that were such a concern to the media when Biden was in the race, it should be an equal concern to them with Trump.

(24,721 posts)... "Biden/Harris" lawn signs.
I'll need new signs, once a VP candidate is named.
Repugs have it easy. They can change a Trump/Pence sign to Trump/Vance with a couple of Sharpies.

(1,249 posts)Trump is running scared.
He wants to change the September debate from ABC News to Fox News.
Trump does not do well against prosecutors with Harris being a former state AG.
The GOP is running scared with Michael Johnson claiming they will challenge this in all the state courts.

(57 posts)That have been all too willing to chime in with the media's "grandpa Biden too old" mantra even some of MSNBC has been echoing.
A lot of youth has deep resentment of boomers. I can share some of that as a tail-end boomer myself, having authored well received extensive blurbs about how our coming of age experience differed significantly compared to the mid-boom babies, far more in common with Gen X.
Now honesty time: myself, under another pseudonym here on DU wasn't tops on the choice of JB as the nominee in 2019. He turned out to be far more surprisingly, impressively progressive. But here it is: I predicted our nemeses would flap about Biden's "gaffe machine" reputation. Hate to say I told ya so...
Now despite the optics of the last minute shift not being great, and frankly I don't care who runs as our D candidate, Ill back 'em on my ballot.

(2,656 posts)Born in 63, the cut-off varies but is usually start of 1964. I've never considered myself a boomer.
Most GenXers that I know loathe Boomers. We usually ended up with their cast-offs, badly used.

Broadly speaking, Joe uses real words, in complete sentences, and makes sense. He demonstrates the character and judgement necessary to be POTUS.
The Orange Baron babbles incoherently. And character or judgement are nowhere to be found

Joe Biden is a great man and has been a great president, and he showed how he cares about us all with this decision.
Now, we are really excited about Kamala Harris. This is a big deal - she will get the women's vote, minority votes, GenZ and Millennials, pretty much everyone including the never Trump people.
Let's get behind Harris and SMASH the GOP, drive these extremists back under their rocks.

(31,332 posts)it will be interesting to see whether the media piles on him the way they did with President Biden. My expectations - well, I have none. The 4th estate has failed this country, sold it out to the highest bidder, and they suck.
Metaphorical
(2,656 posts)The Biden should resign drumbeat was getting pretty relentless. Biden didn't resign, he dropped out of the race, endorsing his VP, and completely upending the board.
Things are now really awkward for the press. Biden is still president, and will be until Jan 20, 2025. I think they were expecting that Biden would either resign from office completely or stick it out, get hammered at the convention come out trying to lead a divided coalition, and would lose to Trump because of a dispirited electorate. He did neither of those, instead paving the way for his protege to take his delegates. I am sure that in two weeks, we'll hear new complaints "Her voice is too shrill, she's too bossy, yadda yadda," but the press (and the deep pockets) were caught with their pants between their ankles, and they are now facing a very different reality.
Their credibility is shot. Worst thing you can do to the media. If people don't believe you're honest and unbiased (whatever that definition may mean to them), they will walk, and people are abandoning the media they no longer trust. This is going to force some serious editorial meetings, and that's going to throw them into disarray for a bit.
