Not that things are writ in stone, but a relative had dinner with the best friend of Cooper's wife. The low down is Mrs. Cooper doesn't want Gov. Cooper to continue in politics. For what it's worth....

(5,998 posts)It would be unseemly. I hope those individuals who did understand that they need to be nice and quiet now, and politely decline any VP or eventual cabinet offer that might come their way.

(7,794 posts)I suspect if they are vetting Ryan, they are trying to protect Browns seat as well. Ryan spent a long time in Congress so he knows the ropes. Didnt debate Vance very well in the Senate race in Ohio. I dont know about that pick

Apologies, but that was too good an opportunity to pass up.

(169,744 posts)And although I know he can pretty much handle anything, my concern has been the rampant racism and anti-semitism that is only getting worse and worse. And even among some of our own, the undercurrent of bigotry - "inherent" - is there (and Kamala's hubby is a Jew as well, let alone we know the head explosions from 2008 with Obama have still not abated).
I definitely don't want to see those governors in states that have RW loon legislatures leave their posts (and here in PA, our state Senate is still GOP-controlled, where we literally have a 1-seat advantage in the state House) - and that includes Cooper & Beshear too. They are the "firewalls" that keep some of the worst stuff from happening in their states.

(2,486 posts)That could be a tough slog for a small chance of a payoff.
But this would be much simpler: he would simply be handed the VP nomination. If they win, he's the VP (a heartbeat away) with nice digs at the Naval Observatory and a place in the history books. If they lose, then he retires having had a tiring but probably pretty interesting four-month run.
