Why wouldn't Biden just step aside and allow Kamala to be sworn in now

Then she would be running as the first black female president. I’m not convinced that she would win (based on primary performance and all the attacks about her and the border). However, wouldn’t that give her a better chance?

Not in the Constitution that a VP becoming President has to nominate someone as VP. Seat can remain vacant.

Who would preside over the Senate? The Senate pro tempore; in this case - Senator Patty Murray.

(I’m guessing this is because office of VP is a nationally elected office. Historians…?)

To avoid a useless fight in Congress - I'll take the chance.

Johnson is bluffing for the media. More likely, Rethuglicans are shitting themselves in worry that one of their deluded,. closeted masturbators will take a shot at Harris causing a massive surge for her in the polls.

That is a new job and could be a bit overwhelming to run the country and campaign.

She needs her entire focus to be on the campaign.

She is on a tight time line. And has to choose a VP.

Also it is not respectful to Joe to have to leave the WH before the end of his term.
This is not fair to him and sends a wrong message for a number of reasons.
