I know there's a lot of hard feelings on this board about Joe being pushed to drop out. I'm hoping that Kamala may bring some energy to the race and effectively attack Trump. She can be more charismatic than she's given credit for. It's probably just a matter of days until Dump uses the phrase "nasty woman" again.
VP choices usually don't decide elections. The classic case for that is that everyone thought Lloyd Bentsen was a lot better than Dan Quayle. But sometimes, like with JFK/LBJ, it can be important. I'm curious who people on DU are thinking would be some of the strongest VP choices.
I'm leaning toward Josh Shapiro because he's very popular in PA and could help lock down one of the 3 states that are crucial to winning. Since Kamala is a woman of color, a VP who is an older establishment white guy, like Biden was for Obama could be helpful. IMO Sherrod Brown would fit the bill, but there's no way we'd choose to sacrifice his Senate seat.
Josh Shapiro as the choice would give us 2 young candidates, but that worked when it was Clinton/Gore. What do you think are some other good options?

(1,897 posts)To go against the conventional wisdom on balancing the ticket. I'd be worried about some older voters like my 93 year old mom, who is disturbed that her synagogue now has 3 female rabbis and no men. I don't think that younger people would have a problem with an all female ticket, but I don't know if some older swing voters might find it offputting.

(5,108 posts)She has no misgivings there.
It wasn't universally popular, and took decades to find the support which brought its adoption.

(1,897 posts)that she ever could have told anyone what the 19th amendment was. I think she voted for every Republican president from Eisenhower through W Bush, but then voted for Obama and against Trump twice.
She's not very knowledgeable, but not that different from a lot of Americans that way. Because of people like her, I think I'd choose to balance the ticket. The girl power people should vote for Kamala over Trump anyway. On the other hand, if Whitmer could swing Michigan and Wisconsin, it could be worth it.

(4,380 posts)and I think it should be someone who is well known nationally. I had to google who Josh Shapiro was and we don't have a lot of time for people to do their research.

(1,897 posts)nationally very well known, though. Maybe Gavin Newsom, but it doesn't make sense to double down on California.
