A**hole donors who drove Biden out still not happy

Democrats need to cut ties with donors like this. Kamala's record-breaking donations over the past 24 hours show that we can do this without them. They are not like us.

But wait, there's more:

Some top backers throw weight behind Harris amid flood of grassroots donations but other heavyweights pointedly decline to offer support
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jul/22/biden-election-campaign-democrats

But Reed Hastings, the Netflix co-founder and Democratic megadonor, was among those who urged the president to stand down. On Sunday, he said only that party delegates “need to pick a swing-state winner”.

Vinod Khosla, the entrepreneur and investor, went further. “I want an open process at the convention and not a coronation,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “The key still is who can best beat Trump above all other priorities.”

Stephen Cozen, a veteran Democratic donor and Biden supporter, said he was “100% behind” Harris, and added that the party’s nominee should not be decided by “some high-profile donors, who may or may not have good or bad intentions”.

In an interview with the Guardian, Cozen dismissed calls for an open primary. “It’s some utopian dream that some people may have,” he said. “But it’s unrealistic. It’s not reality.

“The reality is, if we start coalescing around [Harris] tomorrow, and she picks a really good person to be her running mate, and the money starts coming in again, and we start some good attacks on Trump and the Magas and Project 2025, we’ll win. There’s no question we will win.”

The door was opened a crack, and here they are, helping us lose our claim to being the party of democracy. Isn't this the same kind of oligarchy we are fighting to keep out of the White House?

Here's what's happening, and you can take this to the bank. These wealthy people are helping Trump take down the Democratic party. They are going to agitate and push and threaten and demand that they be given the choice of candidate. It's going to be a month of infighting right up to the convention, which should be a boost for whoever is nominated, but instead will be a nationally televised disgrace. Then the election will be a fight to get people to the polls, and a contest to see which party has alienated the fewest Americans, when, given who we're running against, it should be a Reagan-Mondale election in reverse.

Financial commitment that comes with strings attached isn't commitment. It's blackmail.

That's why it's so exciting to see the groundswell of funding from ordinary folks. Hopefully it will negate some of the power of the oligarchs/broligarchs.

But I also hate to have to engage in a money arms race to elect decent leaders. I hope Kamala gets 8 years to remake the SC and undo Citizen's United.

She's got the prosecutorial chops to make the case.

perception. Andrew Gillum's decision to not spend the last $3 million of his campaign fund only to loose to DeSantis by half a percent of the votes (36,219 votes) is particularly glaring. Morgan has been a reliable supporter of the Democratic Party in Florida and my hope is the current leadership in the state will be much more successful and help rebuild confidence in the party. We desperately need it here and Morgan could be a big help. The current chair, Nikki Fried, has been very active and seems to be a leading a competent effort to make the party more effective in Florida.

When people kept saying "Joe can't win" because the donors were unhappy, shutting off the spigots.

It gives them too much control, and allows malign entities to gain control of the narrative via donations. Real weak spot for the party.

Not all donations come from friendlies.

Oh, and apparently he was already unhappy with the Biden administration FTC head, for enforcing anti-trust measures. I suspect we see the real culprit here. If they cause a disaster and let Trump win, they can keep their $$$$
