History will be kind to President Biden - if we win this election

If we win the election, Joe Biden will go down in history as a hero, who selflessly stepped aside for the good of his party and the country. He'll be the man who saved us from Trump not once but twice.

If we lose, the party will be bogged down in in-fighting, with some people blaming Biden for taking so long to step aside and others blaming him for dropping out (and those who pushed him out) when maybe he could have won.

So we have to win. For him. So that he will be remembered the way he deserves to be.

Blame sharing and in-fighting will be the least of our problems.

But my post was mainly directed at anyone who might be tempted to withhold their vote, their donations, their time volunteering, or their whole-hearted support of Kamala or anyone else who takes Biden's place in protest of how the party treated him.

The goal of everyone - including the much-reviled donors and Democratic party politicians who asked the president to step down - was always to ensure that Trump lose in November. The other motives that have been ascribed (they want Trump to win, they're buying tax cuts, etc.) are, and always were, ludicrous.

If the people protesting the decision truly believed in that goal before, nothing should have changed. Those suggesting any of the things you mentioned (withholding support, staying home, etc.) are being short-sighted and a bit selfish. It's about more than us as individuals, and always was. Every election is.

I think some probably need time to process what has happened and most will come around in the end. People got so heavily involved in the narrative that it will be difficult to let it go, but I'm hopeful they'll get there. The more, the merrier.

I don't disagree with your predictions of a post-loss Democratic Party, but I think history will be kind to President Biden either way. Obviously, a win would be an indelible stamp on his legacy and probably go down as one of the most consequential political decisions in the history of the country.

LBJ chose not to run in 1968, and we lost that election to Nixon. While he was quite definitely a flawed individual and his time in office will always be mired by the specter of Vietnam, his decision not to run and the subsequent loss has not diminished the accomplishments of the administration in the eyes of history, many of them a part of the Great Society.

I knew he did a lot but those are some of the most important acts in our history. Seems like his administration essentially ushered in modern America.
