Interesting article about President Biden's meeting with Schumer last week

From this article on Politico, it looks like, as I suspected, President Biden was already contemplating stepping aside even while publicly being adamant about staying in. I think the president made the right decision, and would have eventually made that decision no matter what, but I wish the party leaders had given him the week he asked for without leaking so much to the press to make it look like he was being forced out, especially knowing that he had already signaled openness to Schumer a week ago. What was the point of all the public defections and leaks that made everyone look bad?

Schumer later held a one-on-one meeting with Biden in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. He tried to urge Biden to consider his legacy and the implications of a second term for former President Donald Trump, including what that would mean for the Supreme Court, according to a person with knowledge of the meeting.

According to that same person, Schumer finished the meeting by telling Biden, “I do not expect you to walk out of this room making a decision, but I hope you will think about what I said.” The president said he needed another week. The two then hugged.

The insistence by some that they knew everything that was going on, even though they weren't privy to any of the meetings or conversations, was presumptuous to the point of absurdity.
