Woman Stabbed And Killed At Walmart, As They Stay Open For Business

Walmart did block off the area where a stabbing took lace, but didn’t close the store.

“I saw there was blood everywhere, on the ground, on the table, on the wall,” said Brittany King, a shopper who arrived shortly after the stabbing. “It’s disrespectful to the family that it happened to. Especially the people and the employees who saw it happen.”

“From what I can see, they never really gave (the employees) that opportunity to recuperate,” said Bob Quarles, who said he walked into the store just as the attack happened.

Master Deputy Jennings Autrey said the decision to stay open was up to the management at the store.

American people, they can't keep up their lifestyle if they just go around shutting down stores for little things like that.

Just like prison, clean it up and continue on as if nothing happened. The other customers didn't murder anyone, why should they lose their privilege to shop?

I'm sure the store manager would answer in this manner.

for the person killed and to give their employees time to recuperate.. But, no, they can't stand to lose a few thousand $ out of the millions they make every day so they choose to keep the store open.

surprised at all. The only thing corporations see is $$$$. It's a disgusting concept and will eventually end in failure.

and they still had to keep working? It would freak me out and I work for a blood center. I'm okay with the stuff as long as it stays in the bag but I don't even like to watch gory movies.

... I would be more concerned about the loss of hours and pay instead of some tender feelings.

Also what about Grandma when she needs her meds from the pharmacy? Or the young mother who desperately needs diapers and has 20 minutes to get them?

How long is the appropriate time to shut down?

1 hour? 1 week? Never open again?

The store acted correctly.

the blood and stuff was cleaned up. They also should have gotten some kind of counselor in there for their employees. Not everyone can work after seeing someone stabbed.

To witness something that violent is not an easy thing.

If he walks because his lawyer's able to say that the crime scene was compromised, people are going to scream--and blame Walmart.

that's a good point. I guess wait until the cops clean it up--even if it's 6 hours or so...I just think the decent thing to do would be make sure your employees aren't too traumatized and maybe show a little compassion for the victim.

down for a tragedy like this. But that would be the normal, human thing to do. And we are talking about greed of dimensions not seen in the history of the world. And the world, because of them, is a lot sadder place.

You just made the case everyone else has been making. Not only are they heartless bastards for not caring about a murdered human being, but if they had closed down, they would have cut the pay of their already struggling employees. Thanks for the reminder, I should have thought about that.

Not sure what your point was though, it didn't seem to be to try to make Walmart look worse than it already does, but that is what you succeeded in doing anyhow.

there is no way I would have been able to continue working like nothing happened. The right thing to do would have been to close the store and send all the employees home to recuperate. If the decision to stay open was left up to management, then that store has some pretty cold-hearted managers. I have a feeling, though, the decision came from corporate -- it's all about the bottom line for the greedy Waltons.
