On edit: sorry for the gaffe! I hear you, PN is NOT a Midwestern state. I also corrected "state" to "commonwealth." Now that we have the geographical corrections out of the way, how about the rest of what I said?
I saw his press conference. Extremely sharp, witty, charismatic, and he brings us a huge swing commonwealth, with the type of pro-union aura that should be appealing to much of the Midwest. I really like Mark Kelly, but he's nowhere near Shapiro in terms of charisma and energy. I think if we're going to appeal as the youthful ticket, we need someone as energetic as possible. I also think he would beat up on Vance a whole lot better than Kelly, and I even think he'd beat up on Vance as well as Buttigieg.
Check this out.

(3,850 posts)I thought we were mid Atlantic.
But as much as I hate to lose my governor, Im in for him too.

(26,744 posts)I keep reading this and shaking my head. Despite the politics of rural PA, akin to Alabama's, we are a MID-ATLANTIC state.

(14,474 posts)as far as I am concerned. Seems like, as you say, a mid Atlantic state.

(6,240 posts)I'm prepared to fight has hard for that ticket as I was for Biden/Harris.
As a Jew, all I can say is if Shapiro is the VEEP nominee, it's about damn time.

(105,866 posts)and would be excellent in countering the media (and the MAGA) RW bullshit on behalf of the campaign going forward.
There are women like Whitmer who would be great too, but I can see the value of pairing Harris with a male VP partner from a state that could be either directly significant to the EC count (AZ, PA), or one that allows them to speak to the issues of Midwest, other rural/Appalachian states against the fake populist, Vance.

(39,963 posts)Kelly makes a lot of sense, but so does Shapiro. The difference is campaigning skills IMO. Shapiro not only puts a blue wall state in the win column, hes a walking viral moment waiting to happen. And I mean that in a good way. Mark Kelly would never tell Tump to stop shit talking America. Shapiro is totally of the moment were in.

(12,671 posts)But, that being said... I live in Pennsylvania and I love out Governor. I think he is the perfect choice for VP.
He is a riding star for sure and PA is a purple state that can go blue reliably with Josh.
I also like the idea of a Governor for the VP slot. We need a hard push to control the Congress and Senate, so I don't like the idea of taking any currently serving members of these bodies off the board.

(4,137 posts)I am a big fan of Mark Kelly, too, but I think we need him more in the senate. While the governor is a Dem, there would likely need to be a special election and there's no guarantee of a Dem keeping that seat.
I do agree that Shapiro is more charismatic, too.

(8,292 posts)Shapiro might be the best choice, but he hasn't been governor very long, and any VP pick will have to survive serious vetting. I'm saying we have several promising choices, is all.
