(4,411 posts)done now that running for reelection is no longer taking up critical time. I don't think it is a question of letting him finish his term. I believe there are still important things he plans on accomplishing.
History -- if we still keep track of it in a few years -- will be very kind to that man.

To see and hear him healthy will quiet calls for him to turn over the Presidency prematurely.

(44,494 posts)There's no way a VP would be confirmed in that short a time, given Congress, and that means Speaker of the House Mike Johnson would be next in the line of succession.

(5,129 posts)and is entirely capable and fit to serve out the next six months. He doesn't need a pity endorsement to finish out his term.
The question was always whether or not he had the energy to be President at the same time as he had to run the kind of campaign he needed to to beat Trump and then do the hardest job in the world until he was 86 given that he is clearly starting to feel the effects of time.
You can think "probably not" on the second proposition without conceding the first (that he's unfit for office now).

(38,598 posts)Whether he chooses to complete his term - or not - has nothing to do with dignity. It has to do with an assessment only he, his doctors, his family, and close advisor can make. I trust him to make that assessment.

Self Esteem
(2,248 posts)Biden stepping aside and Harris ascending to the presidency would look like she's being gifted the office and that is never good optics. Unless you have an ironclad reason for Biden to step down, as in a legitimate health reason, you're just asking for a massive distraction that will suck all the air out of the campaign and very possibly turn voters against her.

(31,301 posts)No fucking way should he step down before his term is over. Harris needs to be campaigning, not governing right now, for starters.
Are we hearing more bullshit about the president?! aargh

(12,635 posts)Because it would tie up any new VP appoint approval in Congress. They would never approve any VP pick of Kamala's.
She doesn't need their approval for VP pick this way. And Biden with all his lame duck, presidential immunity, can keep the Supremes from unconstitutionally throwing Kamala's win to the angry Pedo who wants to be king.

Biden isn't going anywhere. He will finish his term at noon on the day President Harris is inaugurated. She will remain in charge of counting and certifying the electoral votes.
I'd have military units on hand for that. But what I'm waiting to see is if a state like Florida flips, which it very well could, will they certify their electors or try to cheat?
